$10 for $40 in Organic Dried Fruit Snacks

This seems like a good deal but I am a little on the fence because I don’t often buy organic dried fruit.  Maybe some of you can shed some light on good prices for this stuff.

If you register for an account with Gaggle of Chicks (a daily deal site), you can get a voucher for $20 in dried organic fruit from Peeled for $20.  If you have a new account with Gaggle of Chicks, they are also offering a $10 credit.  So you can get the $40 voucher for $10.

I tested the shipping to CA on a $39.99 pack from peeled and it was $7 for me.  So you would pay about $17 for $40 in fruit snacks.

This seems to be a fairly good price for organic products.

Head on over to Gaggle of Chicks to have a look.  I saw this under national deals.

The $10 credit appeared in my account within seconds of registering.

Thanks Deal Seeking Mom!

I didn’t see anywhere in the description on Gaggle of Chicks regarding how much product your purchase buys you. So, it’s hard to say how good of a deal this is. I buy organic dried fruit often and can find it on sale at Whole Foods for about $.42 per ounce (price varies for different fruit types).

You cannot apply the Free Shipping code for subscribing to the newsletter & use your $40 credit on the same order. I tried. It only allows 1 coupon code per order & they are BOTH considered coupon codes. Boo! So, I ended up buying over $65 worth of stuff to get the FREE shipping. It worked that way, since I didn’t need to use a coupon code for the Free Shipping on orders over $65. I sure hope that stuff is good!

Right 🙁 I was going to say that but I didn’t have a chance today. I saw the offer on Peeled as well and I checked and it looked like only one code can be used and that is why I didn’t mention it.

It’s an appealing deal due to individual packaging, but I’m not sure it’s a fantastic deal. At Trader Joe’s they have organic dried apricots for about 7.00/pound which is about .43/lb.
The Peeled snacks look to be about 1.80 to 2.12 per bag and most bags, from what I can make out from some basic math from the nutritional labels, are about 2.5 ounces which makes them between $11.52 and $13.56 per pound. Pricey. Plus the individual packaging makes for a bit of extra waste. BUT, if it means eating organic dried fruit vs. standard, it might be worth it. I think organic dried fruit is pretty important given that it’s concentrated amounts of fruit one is consuming versus eating one non-organic apple which has more bulk.

oops, meant .43/ounce on that previous post re: the apricots

O.K. so here’s what my deal ended up looking like (I forgot to add in the discount from gaggle in my previous posts.

    bought the 20.00 gaggle cert.- 10.00 credit = 10.00
    bought the 30 bag sample package – 51.00 – 40.00 gaggle cert. value = 11.00 + 7.00 s/h = 18.00

    18.00 + 10.00 for gaggle cert. = 28.00 total paid

    30 bags x approx 2.5 ounces each = 75 ounces

    28.00 paid / 75 ounces = .37 per ounce or approx. .93/bag
not too shabby after all. And please, feel free to correct my math if I’ve miscalculated. Math was def. not my major in college 🙂
