You can still purchase gift cards from Amazon- they can be printed out or emailed. You can also give Kindle books as a gift! That would be a great idea for someone that has a new Kindle.
We actually ordered a gift card because I had one gift with shipping complications so it didn’t arrive on time. I like these because they are quick and because everyone can find something they like from Amazon.
