Remember the Starbucks Mobile offers that I told you about? There will be 12 offers that they text out starting tomorrow. Well, I registered for the texts and they sent me an email to confirm on my Starbucks Rewards account.
I do have a Starbucks Gift Card registered with them, but it has a zero balance and I have never reloaded it.
Anyway, when I was looking at the program I noticed that you can get a free beverage for collecting stars when you use your card.
Now I know many of you rarely set foot in a Starbucks but you might check this out because if you register, you will get a free drink on your birthday.
For those that regularly hit Starbucks, this has some nice perks.
So here is the bottom line:
1. You need a Starbucks gift card. You can purchase one in store or online for whatever amount you like and then use it to pay for your drink. Take that card home and register it as well as your information. On your birthday, you should get a coupon for a free drink of your choice.
If you frequent Starbucks here are some other benefits:
- Use that same registered card 5 times and then you qualify for free syrups added to your drinks.
- Once you use the card 30 times (yikes!) you will hit Gold status and you start earning a free beverage for every 15 times you use your card. Starbucks will mail you a postcard coupon to get your free drink.
The program is based upon how many times you use your card, not what you buy. So if you purchase 4 drinks in the same transaction that counts as using your card once.
So anyway, this is best suited for people that spend a lot of time at Starbucks and I know there are lots of Starbucks addicts out there. If anyone has more information or experience with this program please let us know.

The way I reload my card is coinstar. At select locations you can get your card reloaded free no fee as long as you add $5 or more. So we have a coin jar and when it reaches $5, I head to the coinstar and its like gettting free drinks 🙂
I’m a “gold card” carrying member… guess I coupon to offset my coffee addiction… Every 15 coffees (once you are gold) = 1 free coffee

I know someone who is a gold star member and they reload their card every few weeks and re-use immediately. They’re husband and wife and each get a drink, but order separately, so that they get full credit for their drinks. They love the free drink perks!
I believe the gold cards will also eliminate extra charges for any syrups and milk upgrades (Breve, Soy, etc.). 🙂
I got my free birthday drink postcard a few weeks ago. I sure liked that.
I got a free birthday coupon and it is good for any drink, any size! That’s an expensive venti if you ask me! I ordered my venti and promptly dropped it in the parking lot though. Argh! 🙁
I have a gold card and I love the program. I usually go to Starbucks 3 times a week, so I get a free drink every 5 weeks or so. I like that my hubby doesn’t know how much I spend at Starbucks! 😉 I just load it every few weeks with the credit card. You are also suppose to get e-mails with special offers and coupons. I haven’t gotten any yet, though. Great program with no negatives that I can see!!!

You can register more than 1 card to the same account, so it takes less time than you’d think to accrue the 30 stars for gold status. My husband and I each carry a registered card, so they both help count up our “stars”.

I have had my membership since the first of the year. I already had a registered card when the program came out so I think I only had to get to 15 to get everything going, not the 30. I love love love that I can be in line ordering my drink and re-loading my card on my iphone! I also have a card registered on my account for my husband to use. I usually only load $10.00 at a time to try and keep my addiction controlled! That will get me about 2.5 drinks, I’ve gotten several different coupons in the mail and via email, and I just got an email telling me my birthday coupon is on it’s way. While 15 purchases is a lot to get 1 free drink, I’ll take that over nothing at all!!!
