Safeway Deals 11/3-11/9

11/02/2010 By Charlene 37 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links, please see my disclosure policy.

You can see Safeway’s coupon policy right HERE. Most stores will allow you to stack a manufacturer coupon with the store coupons that can be found in the weekly circulars. You will want to be sure to get a club card for Safeway to take advantage of the sale prices! Safeway sale prices tend to vary from region to region so you will always want to double check your local ad! Also, I do not have double coupons in my area so your prices are likely much better than mine!

*Safeway has a new savings program called Just for U. You can read all about Just for U here. This has not rolled out in every city quite yet- but will be soon!

It looks like there is a lot of regional variation this week in the ads.  You might check your local ad a little more carefully this week before heading out.

I LOVE IT! I can not tell you how much I love the new check boxes and print option! I have spent so much time copying and pasting to a Word doc only to find that I missed a part of the deal. Thank you so much for such a wonderful tool.

Oh good! I was in between two different ones- the other looked prettier but this one printed prettier so I picked this one. I can always switch but I want to give it a whirl for now.

    Charlene!
I agree. LOVE the check box option. THANK YOU!!!

YES, I LOVE this list feature!!! Thank you!!!! 🙂 Now when I go to the store, I will know exactly “what Charlene told me to buy”… LOL!!! 🙂

I can’t seem to find the 55 cent off coupon for 1 box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Did you find that under a certain zip code? Thank you.

  9. Charlene says

    11/03/2010 at 10:17 AM

Amy try 95677 and click on Cinnamon Toast Crunch on the drop down box on the right.

  10. Laura Williams says

    11/03/2010 at 10:28 AM

I too like the checkbox feature!

Also I saw on the Just 4 U coupon center this morning only available online only is a coupon for a free turkey for a purchase over $100 and another for a purchase over $150. I don’t know if those are pre or post coupon prices and I know that is a HUGE amount for a couponer to spend in a single trip but I did want to pass the info along.

  11. Amy says

    11/03/2010 at 10:33 AM

Do you happen to know about the “get a FREE turkey” printed at the bottom of the supplemental that came with the ad? It doesn’t really explain how to get a free turkey. Thank you!!

  12. Charlene says

    11/03/2010 at 10:35 AM

I was wondering that same thing! What the heck does that mean? No idea.

  13. Laura Williams says

    11/03/2010 at 10:40 AM

Slight correction on my post above. There are two free turkey coupons in my coupon center. They both require a $100 purchase, one expires today the other on 11/9

  14. Charlene says

    11/03/2010 at 11:07 AM

Oh my word this is so frustrating. How do I know what everyone gets? Did anyone else see a super coupon for $1.88 Buddig lunchmeats in the Just for U section? There is a $1 off printable available that makes them .88 but I don’t know if everyone got that super coupon?

  15. Amy says

    11/03/2010 at 11:09 AM

Ok, I do see the free turkey with $100 purchase in the coupon center. They could have reference the coupon in the ad. Have these been working for you? Mine never seem to come off at the register. Thanks for all the help!!

  16. Katie says

    11/03/2010 at 11:14 AM

Wow. Love your match-ups and the checkboxes are great! I don’t usually use features like this, but yours looks so nice and easy that I totally will!

I’m grateful for the cereal/fruit snacks deals this week, but it makes me sad to think of the “good ‘ol days!”

BTW, I had the printables as well as loadables come off after Just For U started until this past Monday. They rejected my printable coupon and the guy explained the program to me (which I already knew, thanks to you. He did a terrible job of explaining it!).

Thanks for everything. You always do an amazing job!

  17. Laura Williams says

    11/03/2010 at 12:08 PM

The Buddig lunchmeat coupon should be available to everyone as it is also available from the supplemental ad that came out on Sunday.

It seems like most of the Safeway Super Coupons are just the coupons from the ad. There are of course a few others thrown in, like the 1.00 off a bag of chicken or the .30 off an Artisan bread, but overall I think they are just trying to make it so we don’t have to cut up the ads to get the Safeway coupons.

  18. Charlene says

    11/03/2010 at 12:11 PM

Ok good thanks Laura! I think that ad is buried in my stack of stuff to do still 🙂

  19. Carmen says

    11/03/2010 at 2:00 PM

I have a cellfire question – if I load a 55 cents off Cinnamon Toast Crunch coupon onto cellfire, do I not need to print the 55 cent coupon? Will the 55 cents be taken off automatically when they scan my card? And will they take the 55 cents off for as many boxes as I get because you only load the coupon once …
    Thanks for your help!

  20. Denise says

    11/03/2010 at 2:54 PM

The bag of frozen chicken is also $1.88/lb, so if you load the $1 off e-coupon you will get it for $1.63/lb. Love the checkboxes!

  21. Christina says

    11/03/2010 at 2:56 PM

What is confusing me about Just 4 U is that there is no way to tell if the coupons I have loaded on my card are Safeway coupons or manufacturer coupons. If they are Safeway coupons, I can still stack with a manufacturer coupon, right?

  22. Charlene says

    11/03/2010 at 3:26 PM

Christina, the only ones that are Safeway coupons say in bright red letters Safeway super coupons. They are duplicates of what is in the ad for the most part. So it is really easy to tell as well if you click on the “safeway” on the left sidebar when you are in the coupon center. They say in bold letters Safeway. The days of matching a .50 Pillsbury e-coupon with a .50 Pillsbury manufacturer coupon are over.

  23. Charlene says

    11/03/2010 at 3:27 PM

Ok great thanks Denise! My ad only had the Eating Right at that price.

  24. Charlene says

    11/03/2010 at 3:34 PM

No with e-coupons you get one and that is it no matter how many items you buy or how many transactions etc.. Just one. You should have the Cellfire coupon come off at the register as long as you loaded it properly to your card. If you want to get additional boxes, you can print the coupons. It is a good idea to do a separate transaction because right now the paper coupons are removing the Cellfire coupons at the register. So it might be fine but the only way to be sure if to do separate transactions so your paper coupon doesn’t cancel out the Cellfire- even if you have 2 boxes of cereal.

  25. Trish says

    11/03/2010 at 7:11 PM

Charlene – I was at Safeway on Tuesday and I bought some Cheerios. I saw my two e-coupons come off and the cashier said oh look so I know they were there. But when my receipt printed – no ecoupons! Since I am in Northern CA, can I no longer use Shortcuts and Cellfire?

  26. Trish says

    11/03/2010 at 7:13 PM

Also, is the Farmer John bacon coupon gone?

  27. Charlene says

    11/03/2010 at 7:51 PM

Trish yes that is the case. You can read about the changes:

  28. Janel says

    11/03/2010 at 9:36 PM

Like everyone else, I’m not thrilled with the new Just for U program. Yesterday, at Safeway, I had a few paper coupons “rejected” at the register –the checker actually handed them back to me and said you can’t use these. First, I had 2 $2-off on Purina ONE dog food (any size, any variety), so I bought 2 bags –but they would only use 1 paper coupon –the other one they handed back to me. Then, I bought 2 bags of Tyson frozen chicken nuggets. They were on sale for $5.99 and I had 2 $1/1 coupons, plus a cat for $1/2 bags –should have brought the price to $3.99/bag. But again, they wouldn’t take the 2 manufacturer coupons –she handed them back to me and said “it says you are over your limit” or something like that. Then she tried to explain the Just for U program to me (which I already know about from your site). But I still don’t understand why these paper coupons would not be accepted. I didn’t have any e-coupons from Just for U saved to my card for either of these products (which is what they were trying to tell me). Then the checker brought over someone else who told me “you can’t stack coupons anymore” –which, again, I wasn’t. I only had 1 Safeway cat and 1 manufacturer coupon per bag. Any idea why? And is it worth a call to customer service?

On top of all this, they charged me for the “free” eggs we were supposed to get for signing up for this program… and they charged me for 2 cartons, even though I only got one! Frustrated,

  29. Charlene says

    11/03/2010 at 9:44 PM

Well Janel. I have never found safeway customer service to be helpful at all. Apparently there are Just for U Ambassadors in each store- so that would probably be your best bet. They are supposed to be able to correct any issues at the checkstand. Not to be snide here but when they gave us the presentation we were told that 99% of the time coupons have issues is because customers buy the wrong item :). I nearly laughed out loud on that one, but that is the mindset they are coming from 🙂

  30. C says

    11/04/2010 at 1:32 AM

Hi Janel – In regards to this section of your post “I bought 2 bags of Tyson frozen chicken nuggets. They were on sale for $5.99 and I had 2 $1/1 coupons, plus a cat for $1/2 bags” – I think one issue with this part of your transaction was that you were using 2 – $1 off manufacturer’s coupons in addition to the $1/2 catalina (which is also a manufacturer’s coupon). You can either use the 2-$1 coupons or the catalina, not both. They are both manufacturer’s coupons even if one is a print (paper) coupon and the other a catalina, even though it was from Safeway.

  31. Stephanie H. says

    11/04/2010 at 7:26 AM

Ok, so I braved safeway yesterday with my back-up from the just for U program printed out and a very cautious attitude. I bought a selection of items from the list and the only one that scanned properly was the bananas. The other items that I had a special price on did not work. The in-ad coupons that I loaded, the “just for me” prices, etc…did not work. The checker was not authorized to adjust at the register. Even though I had back-up printed, I had to set all of those items aside and go to a table set up and log in to my account on their computer and show their store manager that I really really did have it loaded on my card. He then took me to a seperate register and rang me seperately for all the items. He manually adjusted everything. The bad part is that I had two very young children with me and I spent 40 minutes trying to check out. I do want people to remember that the poor folks in the stores didn’t design this program and they are being slammed, so I think we all have to remember that. However, I did volunteer up my safeway number and phone number so that corporate could call me for an educated moms’ opinion. I hope they call. Good luck everyone! (I did get a few really great deals, so at the end of the day the prices were very good but you must watch that register!!)

I haven’t had a chance to test it yet, but there may be a catalina on the Kleenex:
Buy Kleenex, 60 ct or larger between 11/1-11/28
Buy 4, Receive $1.00 Catalina ($0.24 savings per item)
Buy 5, Receive $2.00 Catalina ($0.40 savings per item)
Buy 6, Receive $3.00 Catalina ($0.50 savings per item)

  33. Charlene says

    11/04/2010 at 8:15 PM

There is but the limit is 2 on the in ad coupon. The price is $1.99 without in ad coupon. There is also a $1/3 coupon so I guess you could buy 4- 2 would be .99, 2 at 1.99, use $1/3 and get $1 cat on 4. So 4 boxes for .99 per box.

  34. Denise says

    11/05/2010 at 11:31 AM

Just a FYI – If you had loaded the Farmer John’s bacon $1.00 e-coupon on Shortcuts, it will come off. I had two loaded and bought two and they both came off with no problem. I am in the Bay Area, CA.
