Restaurant.com is back with 80% off gift certificates to a variety of restaurants.

You can get a $25 gift certificate for just $2 when you use promo code GIVE.

You can head over to Restaurant.com and enter your zip code and see a list of restaurants in your area.

Many will have a minimum purchase amount of $35- so you will basically spend $12 for a $35 meal. A great deal!

Thanks for sharing this link. It’ll make for a nice couple of Christmas gifts to pass along to a few family members and a couple of friends.

Charlene, Have you personally used one of these? It just seems to good to be true. I also would love to get a couple for Christmas presents, but I’m just a little nervous. Thanks.

Nicole, I have not. Some day I will but we simply do not eat out. I don’t have babysitters for the children and it is stressful for me to eat and entertain them at the same time. I have had lots of comments from people that have had no problems. Just make sure the restaurant you choose doesn’t have any limitations of use- like hours of availability- and check the minimum purchase requirement. You will have to tip of course. Also with restaurants they come and go so if you pick some small place I would not hold onto it for months because you never know if they will go out of business.

It just seems to risky to me, especially as a gift. I think I will try it sometime for my husband and I, if I find the right restaurant. Thanks for the quick response =)

If a restaurant does go out of business before you get a chance to use your certificate, Restaurants.com will let you pick out another certificate to replace it (I had that happen a couple of times). Also the certificates do not expire anymore!

Have had only good experiences with them.

Yep, it is risky, and I just took the risk and lost. You have to have a MINIMUM of $50.00 in order to use the $25.00. I guess it’s good if you want to spend $50 bucks there.

I am confused. When I plug in my zip code I see probably 100 restaurants. Each one has different terms that are very clearly stated right under where you select the amount to purchase. The majority of them say this:
“Minimum purchase of $35. 15% Gratuity added prior to discount. Valid for Dine In ONLY. Excludes: Other Offers/Promotions. Valid for a minimum party of 2.”

So I am confused as to how it is a risk? The price is $2- so from how I see the absolute worst case scenario is that I wasted $2. Did you not look at the terms and the restaurant you selected had a minimum of $50? Why don’t you just contact them and ask for a refund?

Nicole I probably would not buy this as a gift for someone since they will have to spend money. A restaurant is not going to give you a meal for $2 and that is it. The vast majority will require at least some purchase- typically $35. ($25 of which is covered by your voucher.)

There are plenty of $35.00 minimums in my zip too! It is a great deal and I’ve always had great experiences. Just make sure to read the fine print. No alcohol, tip not included and such!

We use them ALL the time! And yes, we do give them as gifts…we just buy a gift card for the difference between the certificate amount and the minimum to spend….ie: If it’s a $25 certificate, minimum $35 spend $2 on the certificate, then you can buy a $10 gift card, so essentially a $35 gift for $12! 🙂 Still a great deal!!
We just tried a new place this weekend and it was really nice! 🙂
