Gap just posted on Facebook that they will be giving away 10,000 pairs of jeans to the first customers in the store starting at 10am on Friday only.
Here is the trick- you need a smart phone for this promotion. You will need to be able to use Facebook Places (it is a free app) that you can download. You will need to get the store early and check in using Facebook Places. If you are one of the first, you will get a free pair of jeans. If you are too late, they will offer you a 40% off coupon for any regularly priced item.
Here are the details:
“Offer valid for one free pair of basic 5 pocket jeans with a value up to $59.50. Certain styles are not included in the offer. Store associates will pass out one coupon per person starting with the front of the line while supplies last. Coupon is good for one time use and must be surrendered at the time of purchase. Free item may not be returned.”
I have never noticed this before but if you already have Facebook on your phone, places is there and you just click on it to send an update about where you are located.
This is only valid at men’s or women’s Gap. Let me know how it goes if you decide to check it out!

I’m assuming its the first 10,000 nationwide… but I live in Central US… do you know how it works? Does that mean people on the West Coast won’t be able to participate?
is this 10,000 jeans for the whole US?? Seems like it may be difficult to get…I kind of want to do it though! 🙂
No Diana because stores on the West Coast open on West Coast time 😀 You have to be in line at the store to get the deal. I don’t think it is the first 10,000 period- like everyone in NYC gets a free pair of jeans. I think they have 5 or so per store to give out. That would be my guess although this promotion is really confusing.
Yes it is for the whole US. I dunno you have to be pretty determined because that is probably at most 10 per store. The way I understand it is that you need to get your buns in line early and then push the Facebook Place thing on your phone saying you are there. Then show a staff member? That is how I read it at least, although there was something about getting a ticket first come first serve too.

Starting today, local businesses will be able to offer you deals when you check in to their place on Facebook. Deals will be rolling out over the next few days and will only be available in the United States at this time.
We launched Places to let you share where you are with your friends and see who’s nearby. Now with Deals, you also can see what offers are nearby and share those deals with your friends.
Finding deals near you is easy. On touch.facebook.com or the latest version of Facebook for iPhone, touch “Places” and then touch “Check In.” Nearby Places with deals have a yellow icon:
When you touch the Place, you can view the deal and check in to claim it:
Then, just show your phone to the cashier to get your gift or discount:
I think that sums up you have to be there & check in. Call your local stores as people on the Gap page have been shouting out from different states that they 4-5 coupons total per store.

I was actually quite surprised at how the event turned out one of the stores in NYC. I live in Brooklyn and there are 2 stores basically within 2 miles of each other. I went to one and I had a friend go to the other one. The store I went to, we had about 3 people waiting outside about 30 minutes and 1 person came about 2 minutes before opening. The cashier said they received 25 of the coupons. The store my friend went into, they had a line outside of about 10 people and they received only 15 coupons. My only complaint is that the Wi-Fi did not work in either of the stores, but we had our phones that are web-enabled and we were able to Check in that way. I was happy to get a free pair
Thanks for posting this, Charlene. I was the first in line at my Gap in Milford, CT this morning at 9:45. We ended up with about 6 of us in line. The manager had plenty of coupons.
I used my web browser and had no trouble. Everyone else had trouble because they were using their Facebook apps. Eventually, the store manager figured it out and gave everyone coupons.
Woo Hoo! Free $70 jeans is very cool.
I was the 4th person to get a pair at my GAP. My store in Marietta, GA had 14 to give out. People in line were all calling their friends because there weren’t that many people there. It was much easier and less chaotic than I had anticipated! Yay for free jeans!
