This giveaway has ended, however you can click below to read all about how Ebates works!!
I have a very exciting giveaway for one lucky reader courtesy of Ebates! You can score a $100 gift card to Target.com- so this should help get the holiday shopping started!!
If you are not familiar with Ebates, you can read below to learn more. If you already have an account with them- please feel free to skip to the bottom and register for the giveaway!
Ebates is a cash back site. It is totally and completely free to join and you have no obligations whatsoever.
They offer cash back on online purchases- the amount of cash back will vary according to the merchant- anywhere from 1%-32%. So basically you get a portion of your online purchases refunded to you for free. The refund is in the form of a rebate check that you can walk into your bank and cash. Simple!
So here is how it works:
:: First, you need to register for an Ebates account.
::When you register for Ebates here, they will also provide you with a $5 one time bonus. (For creating a new account.)
::When you are ready to do any shopping online, you simply start at Ebates.com. Then you type the merchant’s name in the search box that is in the top right of the screen.
::I will use Target as an example. I would simply type in “Target” and there are two things I will see. The first is the cash back amount.
So in the case of Target the cash back amount is 3%. That means they will give you 3% of your purchase price back in the form of a rebate check! So if you happened to have spent $100 at Target.com, you will have $3 waiting for you in your Ebates account. Now the trick here is that you must actually click through from Ebates to get the cash back.
If you click on the SHOP NOW button, it will take you directly to Target.com and you can shop as usual. You will see a little confirmation from Ebates right after you click Shop Now and before you get to Target.com. If you register for Ebates and forget to go through them first- they have no way of tracking your cash back.
::Another thing you will see right after you type in the merchant name, is a list of current coupons. Sometimes you might see promotional codes that can be used for your purchase. For example, if I type in Macy’s, I see this:
That is a promotional code for free shipping with a $75 purchase. So I can still click Shop Now, I will be redirected to Macys.com and then I can also use that promotional code for a better deal.
This is where things also get a little tricky. If you find a promotional code from another resource (like my blog for example) and it is NOT listed on Ebates, you will not receive the cash back on your transaction. The merchant has not authorized this code to be used from Ebates (or any other cash back site) and they will remove the cash back from your account prior to issuing payment. So that is a very important thing to keep in mind- you might get lucky and you can certainly try it- but the chances of actually getting cash back in your rebate check is not likely.
And now for the bottom line- where’s my money?
Well Ebates will pay you quarterly. They follow this schedule:
So the next check will be mailed out February 15th. You can choose to get an actual check in the mail, via paypal or to send it to a charity or family member.
They will mail you a check once your account hits $5.01 (not including that $5 bonus). So if you plan to do any holiday shopping this year, it might be worth registering now for Ebates! You might get a little check back after the holidays.
So here is an example from my account, I ordered a new desk and filing cabinet from Staples awhile back. The purchase was $130 and I got $2.60 back into my Ebates account:
So as long as I get another $2.40 in cash back before the end of the year, I will get a check. If I don’t spend anymore money, my balance just rolls over to the next quarter. There weren’t any promo codes available at the time, but I did get free shipping. So instead of going into the store and dealing with it- I got heavy furniture delivered for free plus a few dollars in cash back.
Simple!!
