Shopping Trip: Safeway and Target

This was just a quick trip I made to Safeway and Target today.  I wanted to get the fruit snacks to give out as Halloween candy since they are so cheap.  Here is what I did:

Safeway Transaction #1

4 boxes of fruit snacks .99 with in ad coupon (and I watched all my e-coupons get applied and then taken right off the screen. Made the UScan alert the cashier that I voided something and I had to wait for her to fix it. Hot mess.)- Used (2) .50/2 coupons and got a $2 catalina back. So .24 a box.
Grapes $5.34

Total was $8.30 and I got a $2 cat.

Transaction #2:

4 boxes of fruit snacks at .99 with in ad coupon*- used .50/2 coupon
2 bags of Tyson Chicken at $3.99 each- used $1/1 coupons
Potatoes .97 a bag

Used $2 cat from before and paid $8.41. Got another $2 cat back.

Target:

Kraft Homestyle Mac $2.64- used .75/1 Target coupon
3 Kraft Cheese at $2 each- used $1/2 Target coupon
2 Philly Cream cheese at $1.49- used $.50/2 Target coupon and $5/5 Kraft items coupon (and it scanned at 0! Cashier had to push it through)
2 Oscar Mayer Lunchmeat $2.50- used $1/2 Target coupon and $1/2 printable
Bread .97- used .50/1 Target coupon
Eggos $1.47- used .55/1 coupon
Laughing cow cheese $2.99- used $1/1 coupon

Total was $9.28

And CVS is next door to Safeway so I got 2 bags of candy for $1 each.  I didn’t buy much as far as food this week because our kitchen recently flooded.  We have had contractors, insurance agents, mold inspectors and all sorts of people through and we will be doing a much bigger renovation on the kitchen than we thought.  So anyhoo- I am keeping things very simple around here until things settle down.

I also cancelled my Farm Fresh produce delivery and they sent a box by mistake.  So we agreed to split the cost of the box and I have a lot of fresh produce to use up this week!

*I am hopeful this is a fluke but I tried to use the in ad fruit snacks coupon for a second transaction.  I know it scanned but it did not take off the difference.  I have a feeling they can track limits on in ad coupons with our club cards now.  This might be another issue with Just for You.  Has anyone else had this happen?

I had problems with the in ad coupon also when I did multiple transactions on the fruit snacks. I did it 4 times and only the first one went smoothly; for the rest of the transactions, the cashier had to override the price. So you are right, something weird is going on with those in-ad coupons (or maybe I just had the same blip you did)

My $5/5 Kraft coupon scanned at $0 at Target too… and I didn’t notice it until way later in the day. Boo!!

I purchased 4 boxes of fruit snacks on Saturday and another 4 boxes today in Northern Nevada. I didn’t have a problem using the in ad coupon, but I couldn’t use my paper coupons with e-coupons. I want to get another 4 boxes tomorrow so I’ll report what happens. I did sign up for the Just for You program. If you have a favorite employee at your store, they can give you a referrel code to sign up with.

I have done the transaction 3 times at my Safeway in Sacramento, CA and have not had any problems. I was able to use my e-coupons and my papers coupons. I also bought the eggs with the in-add coupon every time too. I signed up for the Just for you program before I went the first time so I am hoping I will continue to not have any problems. 🙂

You should complain about that to Target corporate. This problem is with their registers and they are fully aware of the issue. They should be able to give you cash for the coupon at customer service.

I’m so looking forward to your report back after your visit with Safeway corporate. I’ve told everyone about my loyalty to Safeway…but now I’m totally wavering. Is this program really going to be better? Not so sure….

Safeway’s policy with produce is that you get your money back on the item and then they replace the item for free. Love that policy.

Angela I figured but for .97 I didn’t want to hassle with it. Mine had little friends that came with the bag literally a day later. Is that the nastiest thing ever or what?

I am so sorry about your kitchen! We had massive flood damage from the icemaker dispenser – $50,000 worth. We’ve been kitchenless since July. My prayer is your kitchen will be put together much quicker!

    Charlene,
Off Topic, but I got a 5$/50 cat for Target after I had bought a halloween costume. Does this work the same way as it does at CVS? First scan the 5/50 and then use all the other Qs? Thanks

Chitra, it has for me in the past. Those are so few and far between at target it might be a hassle because they don’t know how to handle the coupon. I would say you will probably be fine just watch your totals carefully in case the register pulls some funny business 🙂

Charlene – oh that is the grossest thing ever. I need to check mine as they are in my trunk right now. Did you know there was a 50 cent off coupon for potatoes from that new program, making the potatoes only 47 cents.

Thanks Charlene. Will do that, although it will be a stretch for me to spend 50$. Have to look through all the deals within the past few weeks and see if I need them.

I didn’t read everyone’s replies but this is what I was told at my Safeway.
The in-store coupons are being tracked (meaning the register now knows when you have reached your limit). If you notice they have to hit enter button after they scan each one.

    HTH 🙂
