Safeway: Hot Deal on Cottonelle

Reader Allison figured out an awesome deal on TP this week at Safeway!

Now the stars will have to align for you on this and as always catalina coupons can be hit or miss.  I have no way of knowing if a cat is only regional- so if yours don’t print you can call catalina and see if they will mail it to you or you can return the merchandise for a refund.

Here is what Allision found:

Cottonelle 12pks of TP are $4.99 with in ad coupon (limit 2)

If you are very lucky, you will spot $2 off blinkies in front of the packages for any 12ct or larger TP.

Plus there is a catalina printing! Buy 2 12pks of TP and get $2, or Buy 3 and get $3 through 10/31.

So I tried it myself and here is how it worked out:

Buy 2 at $4.99 with in ad coupon
Used (2) $2/1 blinkie coupons
Final Price: $5.98 and get a $2 cat back!
So $3.98 for 24 double rolls of TP.

Reader Michelle once analyzed the cost per square foot of TP and that is a little more than I can manage but this seems like a good deal to me!  I tried it myself today and it went just as Allison said it would.  Once thing is that my catalina was delayed by just a few seconds.  I actually almost left without it and then noticed it printing- so make sure you take just an extra second to be sure if yours doesn’t print.

See more Safeway deals here.

PS:  Thanks to reader Christal and Saving with Shellie for teaching me a useful tip.  If you move the decimal point on the square foot of TP you can get a good price.  So in this case, there are 246 square feet per package.  So you should pay no more than $2.46 per package.  So it looks like this is a good deal but nothing to drop everything and race out for.

I am local. . . which Safeway did you shop at, the one on Pleasant Grove?

Charlene, What store did you go to? Just in case my store doesn’t have the blinkies. Thanks!

Oh I have to stop saying where I shop because some turkey bought all the Colgate out from under me at CVS 😛 Just kidding- I went to Granite today.

Charlene, divide the total cost (3.98) by the total number of square feet and you’ll have the cost per square foot. The front of the package has the total square feet on it. So just double that amount to account for having two packages and use that as your square footage. 🙂 If my explanation is too confusing, just tell me the square footage of one package and I’ll figure it out for you.

I’ll check a Sacramento store first, thanks.

No Christal I was just making fun of a fellow blogger in my Skype group for telling me the same thing! It is a very useful tip but at the same time if you take a step back and hear yourself say that you are calculating the cost per square foot of toilet paper- well it is a little funny 🙂

  8. Megan says

    10/14/2010 at 4:15 PM

Oh good, that is right across the street from me 🙂 I promise I will only buy two. . . 🙂

Megan grab the Herald too while you are there! There are new Taco Bell coupons in the RP for a free Limeade again. I love those.

Just went to the Safeway site to see if there were any new e-coupons but there were none there. In the coupons section it was just printable coupons and there was no mention of the e-coupons that used to always be there. Anyone else notice this?

This is an awesome deal! ^_^ Glad I checked your site just before I headed out the door for our Safeway run!

Michelle I would check your ad and see if you have the $4.99 coupon 🙂

I did this at Vons and worked great!

  15. Josie says

So I just saw the last part of this post–But aren’t you paying $1.99 per package after the cat? So according to them this would be a good deal right? I mean considering tax and all. Hmm–I think you may have created more than just a good deal. I’m sitting here contemplating that crap out of this! LOL

  16. Charlene says

    10/14/2010 at 6:53 PM

Josie- it is toilet paper. No need to contemplate. Yeah it is a good deal. Because the math would be anything under $2.49 is good. So this is $1.99. So a buy price for sure but probably no need to wallpaper the garage in Cottonelle price.

  17. Josie says

    10/14/2010 at 7:19 PM

    LOL Charlene. I’ll stop.

Anyone know if this deal works at Winn Dixie? They have the cat machines so I was just wondering.

The Catalina deal is working in SW Washington (Longview to be exact!) In response to Leah’s comment:
Just went to the Safeway site to see if there were any new e-coupons but there were none there. In the coupons section it was just printable coupons and there was no mention of the e-coupons that used to always be there. Anyone else notice this?

Yes!! I Tried logging on today & there were NO eQ’s to be found! I have also heard that Safeway is working on system glitches to prevent “stacking” paper coupons with multiple eQ’s AND there were also NO doubles in our ad this week 🙁

  21. Nicole says

    10/14/2010 at 9:02 PM

The Sacramento store did not have blinkies, but the Lincoln store did! Thanks.

  22. Nicole says

    10/14/2010 at 10:45 PM

The one in Natomas had the blinkies, although they were running low on the TP.

  23. Megan says

    10/15/2010 at 8:17 AM

Thank you so much! I just happened to be out of tp, I actually went to the Granite Bay Store (at the end of Douglas) and it worked great, I even got compliments from the cashier. Charlene, I actually get the Roseville Press Tribune so I get my extra set there, but I will keep my eyes out for the Herald.

  24. Charlene says

    10/15/2010 at 8:19 AM

Oohhh no I went to the one on Granite Dr in Rocklin. You went to Granite Bay and that one is closer to me but I don’t like it as much 🙂

    Charlene –

I am not sure that this deal is still running, but at Food Maxx they have/had the store brand 2 ply -24 roll toliet paper on sale for $3.98 (500 sq ft), no coupons required and no limit. Best price I have seen this year for the square footage.

Has anyone experienced this problem at Safeway?
I use the self-checkout in San Jose, CA. I see the eQ’s come off my total when I scan the items. Then, as soon as I scan a paper Q, the eQ amount gets ADDED back to my total! I showed it the cashier & he was very nice and took the amounts off my total manually. This has happened to me for the past two weeks, anytime there are eQ and paper Q combination involved. I have complained to Safeway via email & got an apology and an offer to have my receipt corrected (which it already had been), but no real resolution as to why this is happening.

I examined my receipts more carefully when I got home and noticed that some of the eQs did come off in the end and some did not, but I received statements from shortcuts & cellfire that they had all been used. ???? What the heck is going on here? Am I the only one experiencing this?

    Bought 2 Cottonelle @ $6.99

    $4.99 coupon from ad

Charlene, you crack me up…”no need to wallpaper the garage in Cottonelle”, LOL!

  29. Karen says

    10/15/2010 at 4:47 PM

Kim- I’m in San Jose too and have never had this happen, but I usually go the regular lines just in case. I always prefer a person to talk to.

    Charlene,
Are the blinkies at the Granite location?

  31. Charlene says

    10/16/2010 at 11:14 AM

Caitlin they were when I shopped- can’t promise now though.

  32. Kat says

    10/16/2010 at 11:35 AM

@Kim – This happened to me, too! It only happened when I used a Safeway Q in conjunction with an eQ. They canceled my order so the eQs wouldn’t reflect as used, then re-rang up my order and manually entered the coupons. My paper Qs didn’t trigger the problem with the eQs…

how long is this deal going? and how long is the cat running? thinking about checking it out @ my local safeway, but it’s a smaller one, so may not have this deal.

  34. Charlene says

    10/17/2010 at 12:36 AM

Christine- I think that $4.99 in ad coupon is the issue and if I remember it ends on Tuesday. The cat runs through the end of the month.

Thanks Charlene, Cottonelle deal worked great for me. So far I have not had any issues with CF & PG eCoupons stacked with MQ coupons today. From all the other chatter I was expecting problems with my Cheerios and Tide purchase, but luckily no beeps =)
