Ok I have an idea for those of you that would like to purchase Tinker Bell, Beauty and the Beast and Toy Story 3 Blu Rays in the next few months. I think my math is correct- and those that scored the Toy Story deal last year will probably be game to try this. I do want to say that this requires extra effort and some TRU stores are a massive pain about using coupons- so proceed at your own risk.
You can click below to get all the details.
There are 3 promotions running at Toys R Us right now on the 3 Blu Ray combo packs I mentioned above. You need to go into your store and look near the DVD displays for the three cards that I have pictured. You must have these cards in order to get this deal.
- Pay a $10 deposit on Tinker Bell and Get a $10 Gift Card back when you pick up your movie. The gift card cannot be used to purchase Tinkerbell and you must pay the deposit prior to 9/20. Movie is released 9/21.
- Pay a $5 deposit for Beauty and the Beast and get $10 off a second Disney movie priced at $19.99 or more. (offer ends 10/4 and Beauty and the Beast is released 10/5).
- Pay a $5 deposit for Toy Story 3 and get $10 off a second Disney movie priced at $19.99 or more (Offer ends 11/1 and the movie is released 11/2).
For each of these promotions you will need to look for the little cards that I have pictured above and give those to the cashier when you pay your deposit. Do not lose the cards after you pay as you will need them when you pick your movie up!
Simple Idea:
Pay $10 deposit for Tinker Bell prior to 9/20.
Go back on 9/21 and get Tinker Bell. I am assuming it will be priced at $29.99- so your cost is $19.99 since you already paid a $10 deposit.
Preorder Beauty and the Beast and Pay $5 deposit. Since you have done that, you get $10 off instantly on a 2nd movie. So:
$19.99 for Tinker Bell
Pay $5 Deposit for Beauty and the Beast
Subtotal: $24.99
Use $10/1 Tinker Bell coupon
Get $10 off instantly for preordering Beauty and the Beast
Final Price: $4.99 and get a $10 gift card back from pre-ordering Tinker Bell
*You can try to find a .99 filler item and use the $5/25 coupon. Some stores will allow that and some will not. Then go back on 10/5:
Buy Beauty and the Beast at $25.99 (projected price of $29.99 minus the $5 deposit you already paid.)
Use $10 off Beauty and the Beast coupon
Use $10 gift card you got from the prior transaction
Final Price: $5.99So you paid $10 + $4.99 + $5.99= $20.98 for both movies
Much more complicated idea:
Transaction #1 before 9/20:
Pay $10 deposit for Tinker Bell with the card pictured above.
Transaction #2 on 9/21:
Go back into the store to buy Tinker Bell at $29.99 (projected price)
Also pay $5 as a deposit for Beauty and the Beast (you need the card to do this!)
Subtotal: $34.99
You get $10 off Tinker Bell when you give them your card, this is the deposit you already paid.*
Use $5/25 Toys R Us coupon (give this coupon first thing!)
and Use $10 Tinker Bell coupon
and Get $10 off for pre-ordering Beauty and the Beast (this is an instant deduction at checkout)
New Total: Just pay tax and get a $10 gift card back
*To be safe you might grab a small filler item- just to be sure your total is over $25.
Transaction #3 on 10/5:
Buy Beauty and the Beast at $29.99 (projected price)
Pay $5 deposit for Toy Story 3
Subtotal $34.99
Get a $5 credit from the deposit you previously paid for Beauty and the Beast (you need your card!)
Get $10 off for preordering Toy Story 3
Use $10 off Beauty and the Beast coupon
Use $10 gift card you got from buying Tinker Bell
Final Price: $0
Transaction #4 on 11/2:
Buy Toy Story 3 at $29.99 (projected price)
Use $5 deposit coupon from your prior transaction
Use $10 printable coupon (I am assuming one will be released! I can not say for sure they will release a coupon!)
Final Price: $14.99
So your grand total is $24.98 for all 3 movies.
Here are a few additional notes:
:: The TinkerBell offer is a little weird and I am not 100% on it. The way it SHOULD work is that you pay a $10 deposit. The $10 should be credited toward your purchase price (So a $29 movie is $19 when you pay) plus you should get a $10 gift card on top of that. The way my store explained it to me is that I pay a $10 deposit and get a $10 gift card back and I pay full price for the DVD. So that is a possibly and I can’t tell you for certain until I get my movie next Tuesday.
::There is a chance the movies will be $24.99 not $29.99- which makes a way better deal.
::Some stores refused movie coupons last time- so I do not have a coupon policy for Toys R Us and I can’t promise they will accept your coupons.
::My store allows me to use the $5/25 coupon before other coupons. I can’t promise your store will do the same!
So I would try this if you are looking for a little adventure. If you are not, I think you can still get very good deals at other retailers on these movies and you don’t have to have all the headache of this scenario.
carrie says
I went yesterday and tried to use the $5/25 with the preorder of Tinker bell and it beeped. Cashier said the register won’t even let me push it through. So….it didn’t work for me. Cashier said with a preorder it won’t work so good luck to everyone. Hopefully it works for someone.
Charlene says
Carrie- What were you buying? You were paying the $10 preorder deposit and what else? Did you have an extra $15 in items? I can see it being an issue with just a preorder deposit but I think that with other merchandise being the bulk of the $25 needed- there is a better chance of success. I am going to try and we will see.
marianne says
I cannot get coupons.com to print after it loads over and over so I cannot get the Tinkerbell coupon. Is there any other way I can get it? I always have trouble with that site. HELPPPPPPPPP!
thanks. you are great!
Charlene says
Marianne the only suggestion I have is to change browsers. If you are in FF change to IE or visa versa.
randi says
my toys r us is full of idiots, so know that if i attempted this it just would be a massive headache. A few months ago I bought a few movies when they had their b1g1 free and i wanted to exchange one of the movies, and the girl told me i couldn’t because it was the Free One, so i went to another Toys R Us and they told me that normally they could exchange it but the girl that the other toys r us had returned it, so i would have to go back and have the manager fix it, i was eventually able to exchange the movie, but every time i go to toys r us I always have problems. I did reserve Beauty and the Beast at the Disney store, I had to pay the full price, which was $24 and I got a coupon for $10 any purchase or $20 off $40 or more, So i am going to use it to buy the Toy Story 3 Blue Ray.
Charlene says
Randi- anytime you are dealing with a store that isn’t normally taking a lot of coupons it is a hot mess. Same with Lowe’s- when I post coupon deals there. I always have half the people that are thrilled and half the people cursing MFA for her stupid deals that don’t work 😉
Madison says
Would you know if there are any additional discounts if you purchase another movie along with the preordering of Tinkerbell? I remember that if you bought another movie along with preordering TS1 & TS2 you somehow got a total of $20 of that movie. So I was hoping there was something similar to that when you preorder Tinkerbell. Thanks for any info you may have.
Christen says
I’m going to try this–hope it works! 🙂
No big deal, I’ll just return them if it doesn’t.
Thanks so much!
Charlene says
Madison that deal was so awesome right?! Well they had Buy One Get One 50% Disney movies at the time and if I remember it was $15 off a movie instead of the $10 off this time. Tinkerbell is a weird one. It should be pay $10 as deposit- that $10 should be credited to the movie when you pick it up. Plus you get a bonus $10 gift card. I don’t think there is a way to get a better deal- but maybe someone else will think of something.
Charlene says
Ok awesome Christen- that is my plan too. I just printed 2 copies of each coupon and if it doesn’t I will move on. I know a lot of people were upset last time when they had stink stores so I like to be very clear ahead that it is a serious your luck will vary deal.
Katie says
Ok, this is probably a really dumb question, but I need to know! Do the blu-ray combo packs come with both Blu-ray AND DVDs? I’ve never purchased one before, so I’m not sure. We don’t have a blu-ray player.
Charlene says
Katie- that is exactly right. So if you have a buddy or something you could buy the combo pack- keep the DVD and give the Blu Ray to someone that can use it. There is no reason to pay more for the DVD if you can get a better deal on the combo packs. We buy combo packs and have the Blu Ray for the house and the DVD for family members and the portable DVD player.
Nicole says
Charlene- I’m local here in Antelope. Would you mind sharing which Toys R Us you go to that seems to be coupon friendly for you? I can’t wait to get these for my daughter for Christmas. I just have to hide them good so she doesn’t find them. I just ordered the Club Penguin DS games for my boys. Thank you for all your work!
Bree says
This really does sound like an awesome deal but I don’t know if I’m feeling that adventerous. Plus, my TRU is a bit out of the way and not so coupon friendly, so it may not be worth the extra trips for me.
Tiffany says
Where does the $5 off $25 coupon come from?
Charlene says
Tiffany it is the $5/25 coupon that they have released. The link should be in the post- otherwise just scroll down a few posts and you will see it 🙂
Charlene says
Nicole- I usually have good luck at the Galleria store.
Tami says
I went and pre-ordered my Tinker Bell today and they only had one of the those pre-order cards and they told me I did not need that card. I really hope I get my 10 gift card or I am going to be really upset.
Charlene says
Tami I hope they just keep it at your store by the registers or something. Maybe it will be OK and they have a plan in place 🙂
Michelle says
Wow Charlene! I can’t believe how you are able to figure all this out…the deal is too good to not try. I haven’t used coupons at the Toys R Us by me, so I’ll just keep my fingers crossed (and a 2nd coupon in my pocket!) 🙂
Lissy says
Found a link to this site from another that I frequent looking for deals on blus & dvds. Charlene’s explanation is pretty accurate from what we’ve been seeing there. I was going to make one comment though– not only do you NEED the cards, you need to make sure you’ve got your receipt from where you pre-order. The pre-order cards actually say that they need to be validated (run through the register and the receipt printed on them, but they are too dark, so most stores won’t do it). I asked about that and was told to staple the receipt to the card. (But this is in northern VA, so it might be different where you are.)
Charlene says
I am accurate 🙂 Good stuff. I did this based on my Toy Story experience last year. Hopefully it works again. My store always staples the receipt and as I recall they scan the cards to get you the $10 off and then to get your deposit off.
Bree says
Oh heck … I retract my previous comment. This deal really is too good to pass up and I’m going to try – wish me luck! 🙂
Lacey says
Yeah my store stapled the receipt to the card and they ran the card in the register. Something was printed on it.
When I went, someone was infront of me putting the deposit in and she had like $15 of other products. She tryed using the $5/$25 coupon and the $10 Tinkerbell coupon. I think It might have let her use the $10 one but didn’t let her use the $5 off. They called a manager and the manager took the $10 off because she said it was for the movie itself not the deposit. Then they said she couldn’t use the $5 off because the $10 deposit was just that, a deposit and not an actual item. But they gave it to her anyway because she was saying that it didn’t say that on the coupon. But they really shouldn’t have given it to her.
Sarah says
I went yest to do the preorder I used a 5 off 25 but I always was buying hasbro games and tag jr books. I did notice on the recipt the line for the preorder there was nothing taken off if you are familiar w toys are us 5 off they take stuff off every item that’s eligible. Anyways I paid 26 bucks for preordwe 3 tag jr books and 3 hasbro games. Pretty good. The gift card is on the preorder thing. So well see how it goes when I got back and get the movie and preorder beauty and the beast but last time it was a pain only bc the guy who did the preorder screwed it up. But they corrected it last time I ended up paying like 6 bucks each for toy stories and princess and the frog.
Cher says
I just finished my second transaction.
Transaction 1: I had to get 2 copies of Tinkerbell so I added a small filler and was able to use the $5/$25 in transaction 1.
Transaction 2: I picked up 2 Tinkerbell combos ($59.98) plus pre-order for Beauty ($5) and another gift I had to buy ($7.49). They took the deposit off ($20), two Tinkerbell coupons ($20), the $5/$25 ($5) and the bonus for the pre-order ($10). I paid $17.47 + tax. In my bag was: 2 Tinkerbell combos, gift item, 2 (free) Tinkerbell watches and a $20 gift card.
The free watches was a nice unexpected addition and will be a great gift item for my daughter and a friend!
I hope transactions 3 and 4 go as well!
lacey says
Ok. I went in today and apparently they are having issues with the pricing. The price of the movie is $29.99-$10 from preordering-$10 for the coupon-$10 from preordering beauty and the beast. Well somethings going wrong in their system and it leaves a balance of $4.99 instead of $0. So I paid $10 plus tax with the preorder of beauty and the beast (the $5/$25 coupon didn’t work, they said it was after coupon pricing). They couldn’t figure out how to get the $5 back to me so they just ended up refunding it. So so far I paid $10 for the tinkerbell and $5 for beauty and the beast preorder. And they give you a free tinkerbell watch.
Kristy says
My TOYS R US ROCKS!!! The supervisor there was fabulous. They couldn’t get the coupons to work right either. It took them 4 tries, before they got it right. They rang up the Tinkerbell BluRay movie, the watch (which was free) and $5 for the deposit on Beauty and the Beast. With what I had prepaid for TB and the $5 for B&B preorder and the $10 off from preordering B&B, my total was $15.93 ($29.99 – $10.00 + $5.00 – $10.00). I had to pay that, but then they did a second transaction to credit me back the 2 coupons ($10 for TB + $5 of $25) and I got $16.24 back from my coupons. On top of all that I got the $10 gift card for pre-ordering TB. WHEW!! I walked out of there with money in my pocket: a Tinkerbell BluRay movie combo, a watch, $5 toward Beauty and the Beast and a $10 gift card!!! I think I made $.31 on the whole thing!!!
Charlene says
Yup Kristy- same thing here! The cashier said once she did the gift card, she couldn’t do the $10 coupon. So I went to customer service and got $10 credited back. It was $17.71 and then $10 back. I didn’t need my filler after all or it would have been even cheaper.
Jenny Desaulniers says
I did transaction 2 today twice. The problem is that as soon as they scan the card for the $5.00 deposit on BATB the computer automaticaly takes $10.00 off right away from the Tinker Bell movie. No matter what order you do you cant get it a total over $25.00 before coupons so you can use the TRU coupon of $5/$25. My totals were $5.00 on each order and I still got the $10.00 GC’s back so it’s still a deal. Thanks for all teh hard work figuring it out for us.
Cali says
My TRUS wouldn’t do it. I couldn’t even convince her to scan it and see if it would work. She said it “was too good of a deal” and it was a nightmare. Not your fault at all Charlene! I knew going in to the whole ordeal it could be a mess. Plus my Toys R Us is a super pain in the butt. I ended up paying $10 for a deposit and then $10 when I picked up Tink plus got a $10 gift card. I was going to buy it anyway but free is always a better price! Oh well.
Charlene says
Well that would have really ticked me off Cali! “Too good of a deal” irritates the heck out of me 🙂 I hear that when doing coupon deals from readers from time to time too. I guess people feel that coupon clippers should spend $100 and save .05 😛 I hope you at least got the watch too. Addy is crazy about her watch- she made a huge scene when I took it off her at bath time.
Blyth says
I went to my local store, and after an hour of trying the coupons, etc., the manager finally credited me back the $10.00 coupon for Tinkerbell. We even called the 1-800 number for Toys-R-Us to try and figure out why the register wasn’t accepting all of the discounts. My manager was very patient and tried to do his best. I insisted that I get the deal, thats what the coupons are for. In all, I had to pay $5.00 and some change for taxes, but it worked, plus a free watch.
Barbara A says
Doing deals at Toys R Us always makes my head hurt. Today I read everything that everyone wrote so I thought that I was really prepared but it never turns out exactly like any thing that I read. Everyone at Toys R Us was really nice. The Weeble people were gone and I had a really good deal planned. Darn. The free watches were not over by the counter where you pick up the preordered Tinkerbell but she told me where to find them and I brought it back so it was included. I wasn’t allowed to use the $5/25 and she didn’t let me use the $10 Tinkerbell coupon. Well, actually she gave me my choice of using that coupon or forgoing the $10 discount off a purchase of a $19.99 DVD. I didn’t use the Tinkerbell coupon so it came to $14.99 plus .93 tax equals $15.92. I had already paid the $10 preorder deposit so the total would be $25.92, this included the $5 for the Beauty and the Beast preorder. I did get the $10 gift card after bringing it to her attention and the watch. I paid the $15.92 and went straight to customer service where they handed me $10 for my coupon without any problems. So the $10 gift card reimbursed the $10 deposit and after getting back the $10 from customer service I really only paid the 92 cents tax for the Tinkerbell DVD and watch. My head still hurts but it was a very good deal.
Charlene says
Barbara my head hurts too 😉
Melissa Byous says
Ok, I have a question for all you wonderful couponing gurus!! I have the $5 off $25 that expires tomorrow for TRU. I also have the $8 off Prince of Persia q. I want to put the $5 dep for Beauty and Beast, get $10 off another Disney DVD, use $8 off Prince of P q, and eventually get the Toy Story 3 DVD. Can I use all of these?? Is this a good scenario??? THANKS so much for your help! I am giving these to my 5 kids for Christmas, so I’m extending all the deals to their limits!! LOL
Charlene says
Melissa I am not sure how much PoP is. I am thinking it is $25. So lets see:
$5 BaB
$25 PoP
=$30
-10 wyb BaB
-8 for PoP
I don’t think the 5/25 will work because once they do the Beauty and the Beast deposit it takes your total below $25. When they scan the deposit thing it will automatically take $10 off- so you will be at $20.
And then it won’t let you use the $5/25. One thing you could do is either buy something for $5 for fun for the little ones or get something you need like TP or laundry soap. I think this would work:
$5 Deposit BandB
$25 Persia
Subtotal $30
=$20
Get a $5 item
Use $5/25 coupon = $20
Use $8 PoP coupon
Total is $12 and you have $5 for BaB.
So that is a great deal if it does indeed work. That would be like paying $7 for Persia and you got something for $5 for free.
Honestly you will have to try and see what happens. I don’t shop at TRU often enough to understand the registers and how things work. With Tinkerbell when they scanned the gift card, it rejected the $10 tinkerbell coupon which makes no sense at all.
Then be sure you grab the TS 3 preorder card so you have it. You want to wait to put the deposit on that so you can get another $10 off when you go back for Beauty and the Beast.
Melissa Byous says
Awesome!! Thanks so much! I’ll let you know how it goes! My 10 yr son watched, “Prince of Persia,” and he loved it. I totally didn’t think I would like it, but it was pretty good! I love getting each of the kids a movie for Christmas, so this big movie deal is helping me out tremendously! THANKS!! 🙂
