New Rite Aid Coupon Policy

08/03/2010 By Charlene 19 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links, please see my disclosure policy.

Rite Aid has released a new coupon policy.  I know I have personally had my frustrations with customer service at Rite Aid stores but I really have to commend them for addressing most of our needs in a nice coupon policy.

EDITED: At this time you can print the coupon policy by heading up to Drugstore 101 at the top of the blog.  Then click on Rite Aid coupon policy!  It should be available on the Rite Aid web site very soon as well!

In the meantime- here is the updated policy:

Rite Aid – Coupon Acceptance

To Our Valued Customers:

Rite Aid gladly accepts the following coupon types as detailed in the coupon acceptance guidelines listed below:

COUPON TYPES:

Manufacturer Coupons
·         Manufacturer coupons are found in newspapers, magazines and even affixed to products. The UPC on these coupons begins with a “5.”

Rite Aid Manufacturer Coupons
·         Rite Aid Manufacturer coupons generally appear in our weekly circular, on our website and are sent to customers via e-mail. These coupons are labeled “manufacturer coupon” and have a UPC that begins with “49.”

Rite Aid Valuable Coupons
·         Rite Aid coupons are labeled “variable coupon” and have a UPC that begins with “48.”

Internet/Print at Home coupons
·         Rite Aid will accept Internet/print at home coupons up to the equivalent value of $5.00 off.

·         A Rite Aid coupon (with the Rite Aid logo) is NOT considered an Internet coupon (even if printed off the Internet) and is therefore not subject to the $5.00 maximum.

+UP Reward Coupons
·         +UP Reward coupons are special coupons earned by a customer in a prior purchase that can be used for any nonprescription purchase with a small number of exclusions that are listed on the +UP coupon. Multiple +UP coupons can be used (subject to the printed exclusions) up to the amount of purchase before sales tax.

Buy One, Get One Free
·         We accept two coupons for the purchase of two items that are on Buy One, Get One Free Promotion.

·         We accept a Buy One, Get One Free Coupon with an item that is in our flyer as Buy One, Get One Free, meaning both items are free. The cash register will compute any sales tax due, which varies by state law.

Total Purchase Coupons
·         Rite Aid may feature total purchase coupons which discount the total purchase amount based upon meeting specific requirements. For example, $5 off a $25 purchase price threshold coupon.

·         These coupons are accepted under the following conditions:

o   The coupon is valid and in date; only one total purchase coupon per transaction.

o   Total purchase equals or exceeds $25 before tax (before any coupons are applied).

o   Coupons for individual items can also be used including another “48” coupon that is tied to an item in the transaction.

o   Provided the total of items purchased is equal to or greater than the purchase requirement, other coupons can be used in conjunction with the total purchase coupon.

ACCEPTANCE GUIDELINES:

General Guidelines:

·         Coupons must be valid and in date; Coupons cannot be exchanged for cash.

·         Register will validate coupon through scanning or keyed entry of the coupon UPC number.

·         In the event that any item’s selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Rite Aid will accept the coupon in exchange for the selling price of the item. Coupon redemption can never exceed the selling price of an item and no cash back is allowed.

·         When making a return for a product that had a coupon attached, Rite Aid cannot refund cash for the value of the coupon and cannot return the coupon that was used.

·         Rite Aid reserves the right to not accept any coupon where the validity or the coupon cannot be established.

Multiple Coupons

·         More than one coupon can be used on the purchase of a single item under the following conditions:

·         All coupons match the item being purchased.

·         The total of the coupons is equal to or less than the selling price of the item before sales tax.

·         No more than one “48” Rite Aid valuable coupon, one “49” Rite Aid Manufacturer coupon, and one “5”manufacturer coupon can be used on a single item.

·         Rite Aid may accept multiple identical coupons for multiple qualifying items as long as there is sufficient stock to satisfy other customers within the store manager’s sole discretion.

MY TAKE:

This is very nicely done.  We still have our BOGO freebies- so you can still use a BOGO coupon on a BOGO sale and get both free.  Also you can  use an in ad coupon, an ad perk coupon AND a manufacturer coupon on the same item.  You can use more than one $5/25 coupon but they need to be separate transactions.

If anyone still has questions or concerns just leave them in the comments and I will pass them on!

Does CVS have a clarification of B1G1 things like this somewhere? I tried searching their website but haven’t found anything yet. (Had a VERY bad experience going to a different CVS than usual this week!!)

Hi Charlene!Do you happen to know if in CVS we’re able to use the Bogo Qs on the SOBE deal?I do remember last time this deal was on,I read some stores were not allowing these Qs.

No sorry Jill 🙁 I am not aware of one but I do typically have great luck with their customer service. The number is on the back of your CVS card.

I emailed CVS about it. I went to my regular CVS after that, though, and they accepted them without a problem at all! I’m glad I PRAISED my regular store and how great they always are in the email I sent 🙂

I just want to say that I think Rite Aid is one of the best places to use coupons! I get the best bargains there and I think they are fair and generous. LUV RITE AID!

Yes, CVS allows a BOGO coupon with a BOGO sale for 2 free items per their coupon policy. Just email customer service to get the coupon policy. I ran into one grumpy checker with the Sobe deal and had to pull out the policy. All other checkers have been great.

I am certainly copying this to keep with me, it is very clearly written. Good job Rite Aid!

On Sunday, I bought the Renu 2 pack that I thought had the up reward, but discovered when I got home, I boght the wrong pack. I bought the larger size bottles that cost an additional $4 and no UP reward. I know its my responsibility to check, but the store did have the wrong item labeled with the up reward. Anyway, I tried to return the solution today, but the manager said I couldn’t because I only paid .38 out of pocket after coupons and Up rewards. Do they have an official return policy?

OH! So glad to see R-A’s coupon policy spelled out like this, after having issues at 2 stores about taking a MAN Q with a R-A “MAN” Q. I would like to get a copy of this right from R-A and show it to a nasty manager I had problems with. Glad they seem to have figured out their own policy 🙂

Does the 5.00 limit on the internet coupons mean per internet coupon or total? Last time I tried to use multiple internet coupons (total above 5.00) I was unable to. This was the first time that had happened. Reading the policy it still seemed a little unclear.

It means that if you have one single coupon from the Internet with a value of $5 or more they can’t accept it. You can have as many Internet coupons as you like and the cumulative value is not a factor at all. Does that answer your question?

I need advice on how to handle the RA managers who have no clue about their coupon policy, I had been told months ago that I could not use internet coupons, I grumble a bit knowing how many of you do but just accepted it, now my manager will not let me use 2 like coupons (I had 2 coupons to use on the cereal deal last week and he only let me use 1, saying since they were a deal of 2 for $4 I couldn’t use 2 which I know is insane). I have several in my area but the RA I currently go to is the most leianent one because they never gave me hassle over using my $5 off $25 Q before the rest. The problem is is that it is the managers who are giving me trouble and I don’t know how to handle it so that I do not come off negatively, being that they are sure to see me time and again. Any help would be appreciated, otherwise, I will have to sign off on RA completely which i really don’t want to do. Thanks again

According to managers of at least two Salem, Oregon, area Rite Aid stores, as of August 1 you may only redeem one UP Reward coupon per transaction — which directly contradicts the policy above allowing multiple UP Rewards up the amount of the transaction. Help!

Also, if someone could please direct me to the latest coupon policy on an “official” Rite Aid site, I’d really appreciate it. Cashiers and managers in our area often question things printed directly from riteaid.com, so I suspect information from a third-party blog would prompt dramatic eye-rolling. Thanks so much!

Annye- The Rite Aid Corporate PR person sends us all this information. They are the only company I have found that actively tries to engage with frugal bloggers. I have told him repeatedly about the situations some stores put my readers into (like you!) and he says to please pass the information on to RA corp or the problems will never be fixed. He did send me a pdf yesterday of the policy which I have not had a chance to post yet. he also said it will be on the RA site very soon.

I am going to upload the file now and if you just click on the drugstore 101 tab at the top of my site and look for Rite Aid coupon policy it will be there in just a few minutes.

Here is where he says to address your complaints:

As for your readers’ experiences, I’m very sorry to hear that it was reportedly handled so poorly. Please encourage your readers to share their feedback as it’s the only way we can know where problems exist in order to solve them.

To do this, please have them call 1-800-RITEAID (1-800-748-3243) or visit this web address: http://www.riteaid.com/contact_us/contact_customer_service.jsf

Crystal- see the note to Annye I just posted. I would go direct to customer service and ask them what they would like to do about your situation. I hope that helps!

    Hi Charlene,

I don’t understand this bulleted statement:

In the event that any item’s selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Rite Aid will accept the coupon in exchange for the selling price of the item. Coupon redemption can never exceed the selling price of an item and no cash back is allowed.

The two statement contradict each other. Will RA accept the coupon if it is greater than the price of the item?

Tonight, I went in to purchase a tugaboo trial pack (just one) since I have a tugaboo coupon of a $1 from buying one a few weeks ago.

I was told I am unable to make this purchase as the grand total was .97 and my coupon is $1 dollar. I said I was able to do this before. Then they told me the new coupon policy just changed on 8/1. I looked over what was written here and I don’t understand. Could you please explain. Thank you so much.

BTW, I was yelled at by the Asst Supervisor and he told me to go shop at other rite aid! It was an awful experience (just for 1 trial package of trial size tuggaboo). I told him I will contact corporate for his awful customer service.

    Hi Charlene,

Could u explain what this mean to me:

“In the event that any item’s selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Rite Aid will accept the coupon in exchange for the selling price of the item. Coupon redemption can never exceed the selling price of an item and no cash back is allowed.”

They seem to contradict each other.

I had an awful experience at RA today trying to redeem a $1 tuggaboo coupon for one trial size pack. I was told (more like yelled at), that since my total is .97 and the coupon is for $1, they can’t give it to me. I have already contacted corporate regarding the rude behavior.

    Pls help. Thx

  18. Charlene says

    08/08/2010 at 3:09 AM

Well it means they should have accepted the coupon and they won’t give you .03 change back. The tugaboos are a sensitive topic because Rite Aid has lost a fortune over those coupons. I know they have tried to pull all the packages with coupons off the shelves. So maybe that is partly to blame for the rudeness.

    Hi Charlene,

Sorry for posting twice, I thought the first time did not go thru!!!

And I’m sorry to hear RA is losing money with the tuggaboos, but really, I’ve lost the trial coupon 2-3 times and have repurchased a few times. And I only buy 1 to 1 trial pack when I can make it to RA. But rudness is just wrong in any industries. Would anyone (including you or me) want their mother/grandmother/family members to be rudely treated at ANY public venues? ? Anything can be worked out, diplomatically. 🙂

Well, I’ve mulled over the two sentences and you are right (and that’s what I told the cashier and supervisor, but they kept telling me I’m wrong). Too bad I didn’t have this RA policy in hand. We could have avoided much stress for everyone.

What have I learned from this experience? I’ve realized the importance of READING COMPREHENSION! I’m going to make sure my 1 1/2 year old son excel in this aspect of the english language!!!

Thank you for doing such a good job with your website. PS, I check it daily!!
