Oh man this is such a great deal if you are a student or have any college kids in the family!
Amazon is offering one free year of Prime membership ($79 value) when you simply register and provide your college and your major. You will need a .edu email address to verify your status- so sadly those of us that are students of life do not qualify.
You also need an Amazon account and that is it. Now the fantastic thing about this is that Prime memberships can be shared amongst family members- so sign up those kiddos and get them to share it with you!
If you haven’t tried Prime before here is why it is fabulous:
:: You can order ANY amount you want of items Amazon carries and get it shipped free!! Some 3rd party providers have their own shipping fees but the majority of items you find you don’t need a $25 minimum. I have literally ordered things that were less than $1 and had them shipped free!
::Your shipping is upgraded to 2 day air (this is AWESOME during the holidays!)
::You can get stuff sent overnight for $3.99 total! (This was a lifesaver when our camera broke on vacation last year!)
So Amazon isn’t paying me to rave about this- I am overly excited because my free Prime trial ended and I miss it dearly.
You can head over here to get started with your account.

Keep an eye out for an Amazon email regarding Prime if you purchased the Pampers diapers last week that were discounted 30% through subscribe and save. I received an email over the weekend letting me know that Amazon was giving me a free 3 month trial of Prime in connection with that purchase. Makes an awesome deal even better!!
Wendy says
Thanks!! I just signed up and it worked perfectly!
Now…what to buy…
Brttnys says
Wow, I am so excited about this! I always have to tack on extra items to hit the $25 when I order, and now I won’t have to do that. Thanks so much for all that you do.
Cheyenne says
Woohoo! I love Amazon Prime. My husband is a student. Now I have 1 year of Amazon Prime. Thank you!
karen says
is it good if you already have prime? 🙂
Kelsey says
thanks for telling us about this! I did a 7 day trial when I ordered our GPS last month and it was so nice to have it shipped next day for only 3.99 in order to make sure we had it for vacation. My husband is going to school full time online so I now I just need to find out what his .edu email address is!
Frances says
I’m a college student, but I don’t know how to get edu email address. Anyone have any suggestions?
Anne says
Woot! My husband is going back to school in August. He just signed up!.
Malissa says
Thanks for posting this. Signup was easy.
Lindsey says
WOOOOHOO just signed up! I’m so glad this came out in time for me to buy textbooks – many times I will end up paying 3.99 shipping for a book that only cost $1!!
Alicja says
Oh yayyyy! So exciting – I was totally about to pay for a membership since use Amazon so much!
Dee says
I already have Prime. We actually pay for it because we order so much from Amazon. My husband is a book junky.
I do have three kids in college that just might want to have their own accounts.
Sarah says
Sign up was easy. If you already have prime like I do, you might want to wait a bit. It adds a year as of the say you sign up. So it only added a couple of free months for me. My Prime just renewed in Feb and my new expiration date is July 12, 2011.
Still… Free months are good for me.
Sarah says
Edit—- Amazon canceled my previous Prime membership and gave me a prorated credit. Then started the new membership today. WOW! Thank you so much for the deal alert. I Love Prime!

I work at a University and have a .edu email account and I was able to sign up. I just put “other” as my course year. Awesome deal!!
Sarah says
You have to get your .edu e-mail account from your college! If you have an edu e-mail account this was a piece of cake!! I am so excited I was just considering buying prime and now I do not have to!!
Amy says
Hi! Quick question. I have never really ordered through Amazon and am interested in ordering a toy kitchen that is 150 and I would love the free shipping. Can I get a prime trial, or how does it work? Thank you. Amy
Charlene says
Amy- you should get free shipping when you order the kitchen regardless because it is over $25 🙂 Which one are you going to order?
Megan says
That is flippen sweet! I’m a college student and will definitely utilize this for groceries when they are a good deal and I can get some amazon.com gift cards through swagbucks! Every little things adds up. 😀
Frances – I noticed your question about the .edu email. Usually the college should assign you an email address that ends in .edu, rather than the regular .com that you have on say Yahoo or Gmail email addresses. Check with your advisor if you are unsure if you have one. You most likely do!
Robyn says
Thanks so much! I am just starting back to school @ 41! This will come in handy!!
Irene says
woo hoo!! i am going to school at the U of Phoenix all online. this is great! i use my swagbucks to get my k-cups when i need them. maybe i’ll even use amazon for christmas this year now!
Meredith Christensen says
I signed my husband up for the free Prime Membership because he is the college student around here. Now, how do I got about sharing it so I can have it on my account too?
Charlene says
Meredith you need to look for an email back from Amazon that will go to his account and it will have the details on how to share the membership.
Amy says
I wanted to get the Step2 Partytime toy kitchen. Do you have one? They are pricey, but super cute and I think my daughter would love it. Glad I don’t have to pay an extra 50 in shipping though.
Charlene says
Amy, we have this one:

My girls like it- I find the pieces everywhere. I think they will like it more once they get a little older.
I think Step2 has it for $150 with free shipping. That seems like a good deal to me. You might sign up for the newsletter and see if they send a coupon:
http://www.step2.com/product.cfm?product_id=1397
They sent coupons out during the holidays.
Courtney W says
Sarah – did you have to contact Amazon or cancel the original Prime membership or did Amazon correct it themselves? Just wondering how to get the credit applied to my account since I had Prime but I’m also a student! 🙂
Thanks!
Courtney W says
Edit – Amazon cancelled it for me automatically and issued the credit to my card. Piece of cake!
Amy says
Thank you for the info. The one you have looks very similiar to the one I was looking at. My girl will be turning two at Xmas time, she might be a little young for it??????? How old are your girls? I see pieces flying all over my house as well. UGH!
Charlene says
Amy mine are 1 and 3. They got it over Christmas- and they really are a little young. My 3 year old was really into it for awhile but the pieces are a disaster. Now that she is older we brought it back to the playroom and it is a little more manageable. Maybe just put away all the plates and things for awhile if you get it now.
Amy says
Great idea- I will either do that, or wait until she turns 3. Thank you for advice.
Jennifer says
I cannot find that special on Amazon, is there a direct link to it?
Charlene says
Jennifer what special are you referring to? The free prime for students does have a direct link?
Nicole says
How exactly do you sign up for it? I went to Amazon.com and I registered with my edu email, but where do I put in my major and sign up for the free Prime?
Thanks
Nicole says
Nevermine I found it!! You have to go to Amazon student.
