Well I have yet another update to my update on the Sears deal this week.
To recap- last weekend I posted an idea- Buy a $50 Sears gift card at CVS and get a $10 ECB. This overlapped with a Sears promotion- spend $50 in men’s clothing and get a gift certificate back for another $50 in men’s clothing!
So it worked out to $40 for $100 in clothing!
But then Sears announced that it would not honor any rebates where a gift card was used as payment. (BOO!)
So enough of you complained that they decided to change their tune and they have said now that they WILL honor the rebates even if a gift card was used. Even better, they have posted comments directly on several blogs stating you can contact the escalation team with any issues in submitting this rebate.
Now they didn’t post anything on MFA- but here is what they said over on Living Rich with Coupons and on For the Mommas:
My name is Shayne with the Sears Escalations Team. Please allow me to apologize on behalf of Sears for the trouble that was encountered by all when trying to get their $50 rebate. Here at Sears, we value each and every customer that we have. It is not our intensions to mislead our customers in any way and we are very sorry that this has happened. Here at Sears Cares we are a single point of contact for our customers and our case managers work an issue from the beginning to the end when we get a resolution that best suits our customers and Sears. I would like to ask each and every one of you to contact our office via email at [email protected] and we will have a case manager contact you directly within 24 hours of receipt of the email. In the email, please provide a contact phone number and we will call you directly. Also, in your email, please reference this web site, for reference to were you heard about us, and we do look forward to talking to you soon.
Thank you,
Shayne W.

So hooray for Sears for taking the initiative to make things right! If I understand this correctly, it looks like they are saying they will honor the rebates- what do you guys think?

I did this deal, so I am VERY happy that it is going to work out after all!
Do you know if I buy stuff online does it include clearance and sale items or only regular priced items? I think I might be reading the details wrong. Thanks!
I am going to buy my Sears gift card tonight. Yeah, thanks for the update!
I emailed that address that the Shayne left. I got a call today from Sears Cares and they said that they will be honoring the rebate. 🙂
Hooray!!!! I bought my gift cards yesterday because I figured Id try anyways , so Im very pleased to hear this!!
I bought the gift card Thursday and did not get any ECB’s!! I was so bummed because I made a special trip out to CVS which is 25 minutes away 🙁
I’m still going to use it today at Sears so I’m glad to hear I can still use the gift card the way I intended.
Just to clearify. They will only honor it if you purchase mens clothing with the gift cards. Not if you just buy the gift cards from CVS. You have to actually buy $50 in clothing from Sears? Just want to clearify.
I am not sure I understand the question Lacey- but the deal is to buy men’s clothing period. So you spend $50 in men’s clothing and get $50 back in men’s clothing. The point of contention was that people purchased gift cards to buy that first $50 in clothing. Sears said they would not honor purchases made with a gift card which was totally outrageous so that is what the problem was.
If you buy the discounted gift cards from CVS you can buy whatever you want, you just can’t redeem the extra $50 rebate from Sears unless you spend the entire $50 on men’s clothing.
Ok I see where you are going with that- yes you must purchase the clothing and submit your receipt in order to get the rebate. You can not buy the gift card and then send them that receipt.
I don’t think that Sears would be able to process the MIRs and send us $50 back before July 4th to take adv. of their sales that weekend. 🙁
