The National Consumer Panel is accepting applications. This is run by the Nielsen company and basically you apply and if selected they send you a scanner. You scan the bar code of your groceries when you come home, send in the information once a week and earn points that you redeem for merchandise.
Some readers love this program and some find it way too time intensive. I tried this and it was too time consuming for me but then I don’t just come home and unpack the groceries I take pictures, post and try to break down my trips- so my situation is different than most.
I will say that there are no strings attached so if you decide to give it a whirl they send you a self addressed, postage paid box that you can return everything in.
So if you want to give it a whirl you can learn more HERE. Just because they take your application doesn’t mean you are accepted, just keep that in mind.

I like Nielsen, but dislike the scanning program. I tried it for a week and it was very difficult to scan bar codes with the tool they give. Most of the materials I received seemed old and needed to be replaced with newer materials.

If the gifts were things I actually needed like groceries or money, I might be interested.

It was kind of fun at first but it is very time consuming in my opinion and it takes months to get anything worth while in my opinion.

Ha Jenny- I think we all would be! I think it is more products like electronics. Those you could always sell on Craigslist for money!

I just got my scanner today and was setting it up. I don’t know if I’m going to enjoy this though. I thought you just scanned the bar codes from what you buy. However, for each item, you also have to state whether you bought it on sale, with a coupon, and if you bought it with a coupon, you have to state what kind of coupon, where you received that coupon, and how much that coupon was worth. For all the coupons I’m using now, it could take me hours to enter all that information. I’m going to try it for a week, but it might be going back rather quickly, unless I can figure out how to do the scanning quickly.
