I spent a little extra this week because I did almost no shopping last week. I usually try to stick to $50 and since I only spent about $35 last week I had a little extra for this week. So the deals were virtually nonexistent this week which required hitting a few stores. But here is what I did:
Savemart/Lucky’s: $2.52
2 dozen eggs at .59 each
2 5lb bags of potatoes at .67
Yoplait Yogurt $2.99- used free item coupon from First Taste
Reddi Whip $2- used free item coupon
Safeway: $22.01
Powdered Sugar $2.09
Brown Sugar $2.09
6 Cans Vegetables at .49 each
Milk 2 gallons at $2.50 each
Sour Cream $1.69
Sausage Links .99- used .75 coupon
Baby Spinach $1.97
Baby Carrots 2lbs $2.50
Feta Cheese $4.49- used $1 coupon
*I am only counting $17 toward my budget because I brought in a receipt where I had been overcharged 3 times. Safeway’s policy is to give you the entire price back so I got $5 cash!
Babies R Us $9.31
3 Seventh Generation Laundry Soap $1.98 each- used (3) $1 coupons
3 Seventh Generation Dish Soap $1.98 each- used (3) $1 coupons
2 Lubriderm Lotion $2.98 each- used (2) $2 coupons
Whole Foods $11.90
Mango $1
5 Almond Breeze Almond Milk $1.99- used (5) $1 coupons
Vegetable Broth $1.99
4 Rosemary Dinner Rolls Packages on sale for .99 each (will put these in the freezer)
Nugget $21.95
4 packages of strawberries $1.50 each
Calamata Olives $4.99
Sun Dried Tomatoes $2.99
Onion .66
Shallot .12
Yams $1
Garlic .56
Artichoke $2
Roasted Artichoke Hearts $2.34
Lime Juice $1.29
Walgreens $1.15
4 packs of pens at .19 each
Plus I will get a rebate for $4.50 back (hopefully)
So that was it about $63 grand total with a $4.50 rebate back. Now keep in mind I will use most of these items for our weekly menu in addition to the variety of items I already have in the freezer and pantry. Considering there were very lackluster deals this week and the majority of these stores are pretty expensive I think I did a good job this week.
I am in total awe.
Did your Safeway not have strawberries on sale for 97 cents each this week? Mine did, I stocked up and got 10! We go through strawberries very quickly in our house so I stock up when I can and cut and freeze them to use as we need.
I live in NO Ca as well and its just me and my husband yet i find myself spending 100 ever week. I look for online coupons, in the paper, everywhere, I just can’t figure out what it is!
No they were 2/$3 this week but they looked nasty so I went to Nugget instead. .97 is a steal lucky you!!
Is the Seventh Generation Laundry Soap on sale for $1.98 each? Where do I get the $1 coupons?
Lenny I am not sure if they are on sale everywhere- but I mentioned it here and had a few people find the same deals.

I found it at TRU and BRU. Also I posted coupons with the rebate here:

What what is? What a coupon is? I think you can cut that back quite a bit by just following sales and stocking up when prices are low. On this trip I bought very little protein but we have a freezer stuffed from prior weeks. I used very few coupons as well but just cherry picked the best deals from each store. I did a vlog about saving at the grocery store here if this helps:

I am curious about your overcharge at Safeway. I think I was too, my Shells & Cheese cups rang up $1.29 and I was sure they were $1. I hadn’t even considered going back in (I didn’t notice it until later, I hate how Safeway’s prices are weird with the club card savings on the monitor). How long do you have to do that?
Amy I am not sure. I usually just put the receipt in my wallet and the ad in my car to make things easy. So this was from 2 weeks ago. I usually just ask for whatever the difference is- this is Safeway policy but the cashiers never offer. The guy I got today was the first that volunteered the refund in all my years of shopping.
I didn’t know Safeway was supposed to give you the entire amount back if there is an error? I don’t usually shop there but have been 4x in the past 3 weeks for all the sales and all 4 times, I’ve been overcharged and had to go to customer service for a refund.
I specifically asked about refunding the entire amount, since my usual grocery store has this policy. They said they don’t know anything about it and just gave me the difference. hmmm…..
Yeah Lauri I don’t see it on the web site right now but if they charge you the wrong price you are supposed to get the item free. I never have them volunteer this information and I just bet there are signs somewhere near the check stands- I will have to pay more attention next time.
PS: Are you going to my old Monroe store? The Safeway’s here are nicer- more like QFC. You’d be surprised.
I am a pretty loyal Safeway shopper, primarily b/c I don’t have too many choices in my area. I would say I am overcharged once out of every 2-3 trips, and I have never had them give me the full purchase price back. They are always really nice at Customer Service, but it is frustrating that I have to stop there so often. I have emailed corporate about the overcharging issue, and got a canned response. What really bothers me is that I don’t see any evidence that they are correcting prices when I report them, so I assume that the next person is overcharged too.
If you ever see it in writing that they refund the whole purchase price when you are overcharged, I would definitely like to see that!
I really love that you posted this! It shows me how I can travel to different locations to score the best deals. You continue to inspire me to save $$. Love it!
Chadra I have too because the stores here are just stinky for the most part. I would have skipped 2 of those trips but I was checking things for MFA- so I think it is a balance of your time vs. good deals! Luckily my stores are right next to each other so it took me about 2 hours. My goal is to shave time off my weekly trips.
