This is a repost of the Target Clearance Schedule- I had three requests just yesterday for this so here it is again!
This is a general guideline for how the stores do markdowns, it may vary in your store. The best way to see if your store is on this schedule is to:
1. Pay attention while you are shopping and see which departments are getting marked down
2. Ask an employee. I find the employees actually marking down items are more helpful than the cashiers.
MONDAY: Kids Clothing, Stationary Items, Electronics, Baby
TUESDAY: Domestics, Food, Women’s Clothing, Pets
WEDNESDAY: Men’s Clothing, Toys, HBA, Lawn and Garden
THURSDAY: Housewares, Shoes, Lingerie, Sporting Goods, Music, Movies, Books, Decor, Luggage
FRIDAY: Auto, Cosmetics, Hardware, Jewelry
So what that means is that if you are looking for specific items- say men’s clothing- you will want to hit your store on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning to get all the latest markdowns. Target typically starts at 15%, then goes to 30%, then 50% , then 75% and sometimes 90%. For the most part 75% off is pretty much the best deal you will find. Again, you just need to learn your specific store. In my area I have been to the store mid morning on Monday and already the clearance baby items have been snatched up.
If any of you love Target as much as I do feel free to add any of your tips to the comments!

Thanks for this post! – I was just wondering what ‘days’ the markdowns were, and I was going to do a ‘search’ for what post it was because I remember you posted it before. 🙂

Thanks a ton Charlene for posting this. It is definately one of the most helpful tips. I never knew such a schedule actually exists in stores.
Just a little clarification:So, does it mean that Target would have stationary sales every Monday or it means that whenever any stores is clearing there stationary section they would ideally put things on clearance on Mondays ONLY? Also, like Target all other stores should also have a clearance schedule, including grocery and drug store, right?
Thanks much in advance

I find in my area that prices vary highly by store. Although the one closest to me is in the most expensive area of town, it’s cheaper than the two other closest targets. They also have different selections so it pays to see which has the bigger clothing and baby section, for example.
My target also has a lot of great clearance deals in grocery and beauty/personal care. They regularly mark down items that I have coupons for so I try to breeze by those end caps whenever I’m in.
The last thing I try to pay attention to is special things I’ve been eyeing for a while- last week it was a rug. There was only one left and it wasn’t in the right place. When I scanned it it was clearanced even though it wasn’t marked. It’s worth checking since you never know- I’ve gotten some great deals that way!

Well sort of. So you can go to your grocery store and ask the butcher when they do meat mark downs, same with the bakery and the dairy but they won’t have an exact schedule like this. Back to Target- it just means they go through the Stationary aisle on that day and whatever is getting moved out- like seasonal items or whatever goes on clearance. A large store might have a longer clearance schedule than a small store with less room- they might bump things to 30% right off. It doesn’t mean on Monday you go to Target and score cheap stationary because maybe nothing really came up that week. But if you have your eye on something specific like a baby crib or something you can get an idea of the best times to look.

I have three Targets within 30 minutes of me. When the big clearance was happening in January, I hit all three within a week. Their schedule varied within these three stores. Two of them marked their toys down on Thurs, one did it on Fri. Some did their home on Wed, some did home stuff on Thurs. I go to one of the stores (closest to me) most often and I’ve been able to follow their patterns pretty well. I think you just have to observe your own local store to see what their schedule is like because they all deviate a bit from the standard schedule.

Thanks for all your Target tips. I went tonight and SCORED! I got a cute Merona handbag for free, a cute Merona tee for $1.98, a solar light for $1.99, a storage bin for $1, and a few other clearance goodies. Your hard work is VERY much appreciated!
