What a terrible time to run out of ink!! The 7up bottle just looked like a yellow blob lol Can anyone recommend an ink friendly reasonably priced printer? I’m about to chuck mine, 1 yr old but I can only get half a ream of paper out of it. Tyvm Charlene for letting us know it was back! Sry for the rant 🙁

Kelly, I used to have a regular printer and I felt like I replaced ink weekly. Ridiculous. I bought this Brother printer from Amazon last year and I have been extremely happy with it. I would say I replace the ink every 3-4 months and I pay $35 or so for a cartridge from Amazon. Now keep in mind I print way more than a normal person since I test a lot of coupons to see what they say.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010Z1W06?ie=UTF8&tag=myfrugadve-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0010Z1W06

So the downside is that it only prints in black and white and once it is out of ink- bam all the sudden not one more document- not much warning so I always keep a back up cartridge. I am pretty sure I paid closer to $60 so if you are interested maybe watch it for a week or so and see if the price changes. I totally recommend investing in a new printer as I really believe it saves in the long run.

    Kelly,

We have an HP LaserJet 1100, it was bought from DH’s old work when they closed down some of their offices. So our printer is an older model, but it works wonderfully. I buy 1 cartridge a year – yep only one. The cartridge is about $100 if not on sale, and mine only prints b&w, however I print A TON OF STUFF! We homeschool 3 kids and we print at least 10-15 pages daily between their work and my coupons, sometimes more. I homeschool 5 kids last year and printed almost everything online and the ink still lasted 9 months.

We have a Samsung Color Laser Printer–CLP 600N. We got it on sale at Staples for about $140, ink runs about $100 per toner cartridge (it contains 3). We found the toner on Ebay for $40 each–including shipping.
We have only had to replace the black 2 times, and the color ones once in 3 years–and it will probably be good for another year at this point. I print a TON of stuff!
The best thing about the printer is it’s a Network printer, so we have it connected to 4 computers in our home (2 desktops, 2 laptops). I get to print out LOTS of coupons this way.

We have owned a lot of printers, but this one by far, is the BEST! I will definetly go this route the next time.

I was soooo mad at my last printer (Epson) that I threw it into the street, and it still worked! –it refused to print anything–even black & white–if it ran out of ANY of the 6 ink cartridges it had in it. Our Samsung Laser Printer lets you continue to print if it runs out of a color.

I have the Brother 2170W, so it is wireless and I love it! I have had it since before Christmas and I’m still using the starter toner that came with it and I print a TON! I had a problem setting it up so I was searching online and found a GREAT TIP….if you take the toner cartridge out, you’ll see that on either side of it, there is a small glass circle type window thing. That is how the printer knows how much toner is in it and when it “thinks” it’s low or out of ink, it stops working. That is the only complaint that I could find on it….well someone posted that you could put a piece of tape or a sticker over one of those “windows” and it will trick the printer into thinking it’s full. I got the low toner message in February and I put one of those garage sale circle stickers over it, put it back in and I’m still using it! Like I said, I print a ton. It’s really stinks that is just stops working like that because then so many people are buying new toner before they need to. I’m so glad that I initially had trouble setting it up, otherwise I wouldn’t have found this tip. I would say that since I got that low/empty message I have probably printed at least 1,500 more pages if not more since putting the sticker over it!

    Hope this helps!

Ty you so much ladies for writing back to my post, I will look them all up! Have you had a problem with any stores not wanting to take a printable because it was only in b/w? It’s one of the reasons I’ve kept my printer so long because I was afraid of them not taking them. Tyvm again, it’s very appreciated!

Kelly-I was inititally nervous that a store wouldn’t accept them in B&W, but I have never had it questioned. If someone were to say something, I would simply just tell them that I only have a B&W printer because I print so much and don’t want to pay for color ink. Also, all of the coupons have their own unique code on them anyways, so you can always point that out as well. 🙂
