CVS logoHere is the CVS for beginners recommendation for the week thanks to $30 Weekly Grocery Challenge.

Deal Idea #1
Nivea Lip Care $2.99, Get $2.99 ECB (Limit 1)

Buy 2 Niveal Lip Care $2.99
Use BOGO Free Nivea Lipcare coupon from 2/7 Red Plum (*this coupon expires March 7th*)
Pay: $2.99
Get back $2.99 ECB
Final Cost: 2 Nivea for free!

Deal Idea #2
Oral B Crossaction Toothbrush $4, Get $4 ECB (Limit 2)

Buy Oral B Crossaction Toothbrush $4
Use $0.75/1 Crossaction coupon from 2/21 P&G
Pay: $3.25
Get Back $4 ECB
Final Cost: FREE + $0.75 moneymaker!

Since the Oral B Crossaction is limit 2, you can do this twice if you prefer.  You can use the ECB you earned from the first transaction to pay for a second toothbrush.  If you decide to use another .75 coupon for the second transaction you will want to find an item you need for .75 or so.  You will not get cash back for your $4 ECB- so might as well use all the money rather than lose it!

Even if you don’t have the coupons above this is still a good deal since the items are essentially free after ECBs. You can take the ECBs that print and use them as store credit for almost anything CVS carries. You can also combine the ECBs with other coupons to stretch your money even further.

Why do you need to buy something for .75? the ECB in the 1st transaction is $2.99 and the toothbrush is $4. that would make it $1.99 and then subtracting the .75 coupon would make it .26 for the toothbrush. Is there something where the register will beep and that’s why you need the extra .75 purchase? Sorry if I’m not understanding correctly.

oh wait, you mean if you get the second toothbrush in a third transaction and you use the .75 q then you’d have to buy something to make up the difference between the $4 ECB and the coupon.
okay, got it. Got confused since you said second transaction. Sorry about that!

You don’t have to buy anything if you don’t want to. Here is what the recommendation looks like:

    Buy toothbrush at $4
    Use .75 coupon
    Pay $3.25 + tax
    Get $4 ECB

    Buy 2nd toothbrush $4
    Use $.75 coupon
    Use $4 ECB
Since the total amount of your purchase is $4 and you have essentially paid them $4.75 with the $4 ECB and .75 coupon they will adjust the ECB down to $3.25.

So you have either wasted your .75 coupon or you have lost .75 in ECBs. Now a little tax will be factored in but to keep things nice and simple I would grab something to use up all that money. They will not give you .75 in cash the ECB value will be adjusted down. That transaction is simply for the Oral B the Nivea is entirely separate. Kathy was just offering two ideas depending on what you might need.

You can add the Nivea in to your purchase if you like and the .75 can go toward that but the point of this is to make the scenarios as simple and easy to follow as possible. If this is what you are thinking of doing than go for it:

    Buy 2 Nivea at $2.99
    Use BOGO coupon
    Pay $2.99
    Get $2.99 back

    Buy 1 Oral B at $4
    Use $2.99 ECB
    Use $.75 coupon
    Pay .26
    Get $4 ECB

    Buy 2nd toothbrush at $4
    Use another .75 coupon
    Use $4 ECB from above
Subtotal is -.75 so the ECB value will be adjusted down and you have lost .75
    Pay 0

If you have an scenario in mind let us know but I am not understanding where the $1.99 comes in.

If you buy two of the Crossaction toothbrushes in the same transaction, will you get 4 ECBs for each, or do you have to purchase them in separate transactions? Sorry for all the toothbrush questions, but I was thinking of getting a couple.

Yes Mary you can buy up to two and get up to $8 back in ECBs. I like buying 2 at once because if you get a $5/15 coupon or a $5/20 coupon that puts you nearly there. Plus the Nivea will count as $5.98 toward your total to use those CVS coupons too. I didn’t want to confuse anyone with all that though. If you strictly want the Oral B than it would be better to pay separately just to reduce the amount you spend out of pocket.

Well sort of 🙂 We meant to say here is one idea = Nivea. If you don’t want that here is another idea = Oral B. So we weren’t suggesting doing 3 transactions but I can see why you read it that way. And the 3 transactions are hot if you like those products. That is 2.99 + .26 = $3.25 and get a $4 ECB back after it is all said and done. Nice.

I just clipped a $0.75/1 out of my 2/7 P&G which includes the crossaction toothbrush. So if you don’t get two newspapers, you can check that out to maximize the two toothbrushes.

I found the BOGO coupons in today’s paper and got 4 toothbrushes free. I bought two at $4.00, got two free, and got $8.00 in EBC’s. I’m new to CVS shopping, but I’m hooked now!

Well good job! I didn’t think those coupons were for the same toothbrush but I will look again. CVS rocks.
