Safeway Trip

I did 2 transactions at Safeway and got the milk at CVS.  My grand total was basically $1.55 for all this. Click below to see the breakdown.

The first was CVS (which is next door to Safeway- whoo hoo!) I bought milk for $2.69 and in CA they have an ECB this week for .70 back.  I used a .50 Real CA milk coupon and my .50 quarterly rewards and paid $1.69.  I got .70 ECB back making the net .99.

Then I went to Safeway and I did 2 transactions for the Betty Crocker deal. I had a real doozy of a cashier so this didn’t go exactly as I thought:

2 Sargento $1.49 with in ad coupon
8 Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks $1 each
Eggplant .99
Carrots .99

I used (4) $1/2 coupons for the Betty Crocker plus a $2.50 catalina coupon I already had. Now somehow the in ad coupon for Sargento deducted $6 from my total (to make the cheese $1.49 each) instead of $4. I argued with the cashier but she insisted she was right- so anyway- $2 more came off than should have. So I didn’t get to roll my catalinas- but I paid $1.07 for my first transaction and $1.99 for my second.

Then I have (2) $2.50 catalinas for next time! So I figure I spent $3.06 + the $2.50 catalina I started with and got $5.00 back for a net of .56!  Whoo hoo!

Even if you don’t want to bother with coupons this fruit snacks deal is a good one!  You will pay $4 for 4 boxes and get $2.50 back in a catalina- making each box .37!  I am going back for more so I can have them for Easter baskets this year!

Thanks for all your work! I had to chuckle when you mentioned your encounter with Safeway’s cashier. Jill Cataldo, a Chicagoland blogger, posted this today, and it’s really striking a cord. I’m guessing you’ll be able to relate too. Best to you, and keep up the great work!

That is some good shopping. I wanted to say thanks again for all you do. In my mailbox today I got my $10 Safeway Gift card for the Safeway.com survey you told us about back a couple of months ago. Also got my coupon for a FREE international delight. All thanks to you!

I went to Safeway earlier today and spotted a new coupon booklet in the produce section!! It was right in front of the bagged salads and has lots of really great Safeway coupons. The front says “Make It Tonight….Simple Affordable Meals”. Inside it is $20 worth of coupons. Wahooo! Let me know if you want a list of what’s inside. One of my favs is the $1.00 off Kraft Shredded Cheese. Oh, and $1.00 off Nabisco crackers!!!

I love that you tried to correct her! I usually do that too, but I’ve found that they do Not want my input. I still think it’s good karma, though!
People are talking about that Make It Tonight book everywhere. I think it’s going to be my mission tomorrow!

at my Safeway the cheese was advertised at $1.49 after coupon, so that seems correct to me.

I live in Las Vegas and we do not get any sort of ”Catalina” coupon (actually I don’t even know what it is) I should ask the checkers here, maybe they don’t participate here. And we have NO double/triple coupons whatsoever =((

Molly the vast majority of stores do have catalina machines. In fact I have never heard of a store not having them? Maybe Vegas is without but are you sure you are looking at the right thing? If you want to know what it is just click on the word catalina and it should take you to an article describing them.

I don’t have double coupons either.

I would recommend doing separate transactions.
