Review: Joovy Kooper Stroller

joovy strollerOk I have to tell you I was thrilled to review the Joovy Kooper stroller recently.  You see I hate our stroller.  I really and truly hate our stroller- we have been arch enemies pretty much since the day we met almost three years ago.

From time to time my frugality gets the better of me, and our stroller is a prime example.  I was shocked to see how expensive strollers were when I was pregnant with my first baby.  My Dad wanted to purchase a stroller for us and I felt greedy asking for one of the fancy strollers that were in the stores.  Instead I decided on a simple and modest travel system.   Well little did I know how much easier life can be with a nice stroller!  The one we had was bulky, did not fold easily, was nearly impossible to turn- oh and the basket broke just a few months in to using it.  So not only was it a pain in the neck but it really looked hideous and beat up almost immediately.  Did I mention it was a light tan color?  Well that made it look dirty and worn pretty much the minute we took it out of the box.

So I have been on the lookout for a good stroller with baby #2.  Now that I know what NOT to look for I can really appreciate a well made product.

I have to tell you the Joovy Kooper is a pretty cool stroller for several reasons:

1.  It is incredibly compact and folds up easily.  When I say compact it is probably half the size of our old one when folded up.  You can get an idea by looking at the travel bag accessory that is available- just look how small that is!  Plus it only weighs 17 pounds- so it really is easy to travel with.

2. It comes in a variety of bright colors and super easy to clean premium fabric.  This baby just looks modern and fresh- and is totally gender neutral.

3.  It is really 2 strollers in one because it can be a buggy stroller or you can remove the canopy to make it an umbrella stroller!  How cool is that?!  And the canopy is over sized as well so this is really ideal in any climate.

4.  Safety- this stroller has a five point harness and three anchor points to be sure your little one is super secure.

5. Reclining seat- the seat does recline so your little one is always comfortable.

And there is so much more I can tell you.  Every time I use this stroller I find some neat little thing- like the mesh pockets that seem to be everywhere or the basket that holds a ton of stuff or the super cushy shoulder straps.  The first time I used the stroller, I had to take our dog to the vet which is inside a large pet store.  I had our very fussy 9 month old in the Joovy and was guiding our 100 lb (and incredibly excited) dog through the crowded store.  This would have been a total nightmare with our old stroller!  Instead I was able to easily navigate through the store one handed with the Joovy.  I have to say I was thoroughly impressed with how light and easy it was to handle. This stroller really does turn on a dime and is especially perfect for navigating crowded spaces.

Here is Maya in the Kooper with the canopy removed to make it an umbrella stroller.

This stroller is actually less expensive than the travel system we bought and I so wish I had found Joovy years ago!

I can highly recommend this product and I think the pricing is extremely reasonable at $159 with free shipping direct from Joovy or Amazon.  They also make jogging strollers, double strollers and even triple strollers- you can see the complete line up HERE. Joovy is based in Texas so customer service is very readily available if you have any questions or need product support.  You can order online or look for a retailer near you HERE.

Joovy also makes a line of toys for children including a toy stroller, car seat and booster seat.  These are not flimsy doll strollers that can be played with a few times and pretty much trashed after that.  They are incredibly high quality and realistic- more investment toys that can be handed down from child to child.

The toy caboose stroller folds easily, has a little snack tray, reclining seat and swivel front wheels.  This is a perfect option for older children as it is not tiny like other toy strollers on the market.  My two year old can push it around quite easily with her little toys inside but I can easily see a child up to 10 years old loving this product.  You can also accessorize your stroller with the little car seat or get the matching booster seat.  Since I have two girls, I typically look for products that are actually going to last and I guarantee this toy stroller will stand up to years of use.  These are on sale for $39.99 from Amazon right now (for the blue) or $59 from Joovy (for the pink).  That is a steal for the quality of this product and I doubt that sale price will last long!

Do you happen to know how tall this is from floor to handles? With a particularly tall hubby, height plays a factor in my picking. Otherwise I have to push all the time!

Great review! I absolutely love my Joovy Caboose tandem stroller. I totally agree with what you said about being able to turn it with one hand–great feature!

Did you receive this to review or were to paid to review this product in anyway? I always like to know if I am looking at a paid review or something you just loved so much you were giving your recommendation. Helps put the glowing review in perspective. Thanks!

I’m with Jen on this one . . . is this a paid review or did you score a free stroller for doing this?!?!

I don’t do paid reviews. I don’t do paid posts either. I personally don’t think that is something I want to do on my blog but it is always good to ask! Those are getting pretty common on many sites. I am skeptical of things I read as well. I just loved the stroller. If I didn’t love it I wouldn’t have done any review at all. Trust me I have sent back more sample products than I want to think about because I didn’t think the product was good. I don’t recommend things that I personally wouldn’t spend my own money on and I wish I had ditched that crappy stroller we had years ago.

For any review the product is provided to test it out. It might seem like of course she will say anything she got a free stroller! But reviews actually take a ton of time and they are a lot of work- as are the giveaways. A LOT of work. So personally I’d rather just buy something I want than put in all the time to review it. I had a ton of requests over the past few months for help with baby products and a stroller was always at the top of the list- hence the review :)!

Charlene, I emailed you twice asking about different strollers. I really appreciate this as I just haven’t had time to really research them! This sounds like a great product and the price is totally in our budget. Thank you!! I am going to check it out at Babies R Us!

    Charlene,

I appreciate your honest opinion on the reviews and who cares if you get something free once in a while, look at all the stuff that you post here for us. I am sure you aren’t paid to write about free samples that you tell us about all the time or the great deals at the drugstores.

Your review made me laugh! I HATE my stroller too and I have no idea why I just haven’t bought a new one. For $150 it is totally worth it to not have the frustration. Thanks!

I just ordered the doll stroller. $40 is a great deal- I had a cheap $20 one from TRU that totally fell apart. Thanks!

I asked about this as well and I appreciate the recommendation! I love the colors and this looks like an awesome stroller!

Did you miss the snack tray? I noticed this doesn’t have one.

You know I actually don’t miss it. I thought I might but personally I find those trays to be a pain to keep clean and they make it harder to get baby in and out. There are little mesh pockets on the sides that can hold snacks, toys and sippy cups so you do have somewhere to put things.

I know this was posted some time ago but I wanted to share my thoughts on the Joovy Kooper stroller in case anyone searched for reviews on it like I did. I purchased the Kooper when my son was 4 months old and even then he fit in it perfectly! He is now 14 months and still has tons of room to grow. I love how big the seat is! The stroller really does fold down small and is super easy to transport! Sometimes I do wish it had a snack tray but I actually went to BRU and bought one of those velcro-on parent organizers and it velcros around each side of the stroller in front of my son to make reaching his snack cup and sippy cup easier. The mesh pockets on the inside of the seat do work well though if you didn’t want to go through all that. I also purchased one of those elastic bands you attach to their sippy to keep them from throwing it and keep his favorite lion on it instead of a sippy. I put the band through the plastic piece that is used to keep the stroller closed (on the side) and it works perfectly at keeping it from being thrown (you don’t need to latch that when just putting it in and out of the trunk because it’s so light weight and easy to get out). I will say though that not all fast food cups fit in the parent cup holders and if your cup is too full it will weigh it down and cause it to spill over a little. The top of the canopy is huge so it’s really easy to throw your fast food bag or shopping items up there so it makes up for not having a parent tray. The 5 point harness is great except now that he is a little older the part that goes between his legs is as loose as it can be and it doesn’t go up as high as most lap belts. It kinda sits between his hips and thighs where his legs bend but I feel 100% comfortable with the safety of it so it’s just an observation. The stroller is so easy to push and it is especially easy to use going up curbs and bumps. I do wish the basket was a little easier to access…when the seat is fully reclined it almost touches the basket so you have to either lift the child & seat up or go through the side. I purchased a mommy hook from BRU and hooked it to the side so I rarely need the basket anymore so that’s another issue resolved. Are you still loving your stroller? I still love mine and would recommend it to everyone! I love your review and agree with you on everything you said! Great job!

I purchased the Joovy Kooper earlier this year & have had nothing but issues with it! Ours is very hard to manuever with two hands let alone one! I contacted the company and they told me to use Vaseline on the wheels. I’m thinking this isn’t a solution…I think the stroller should work without providing maintenance. I would love this stroller if it actually was easy to push and turn – everything is great about it except for the issue we are experiencing!
