I talk about Hooked on Phonics a lot and I have to say it is easy to dismiss them but the item I ordered I was extremely impressed with. I got a workbook for less than $2 to teach my toddler colors and it is extremely durable, came with a DVD and a little marker. I thought it was great quality and an incredible price.

I bought the Discover Reading Toddler 18-36 months last time around. It’s just okay. After I purchased it I found several on eBay for cheaper. I would choose books at Amazon over this any day. Amazon is having a 4 for 3 promo w/free shipping for orders over $25 or w/Prime. I highly recommend Peek-a-Who by Nina Laden.
My sister in-law got the workbooks too. She loves them as well.
I ordered Master reader for my daughter who was really struggling. We did it over the summer between 2nd & 3rd grade. she ended her 2nd grade school year reading at an early Kindergarten level, and when she started 3rd grade she was reading at the late 2nd grade level. MAJOR IMPROVEMENT!! I would recomend this program to anyone!!
I used these to teach my oldest (now 7 and a great reader) to read so I bought a bunch the last sale for my 3 year old – he loves them. They came with fun games for the computer and great lessons to do with him. We do preschool at home and this has been a great part of it! I just ordered 3 more workbooks for him!
We use the Hooked on Phonics Master Reader program for our 5 year old who can now read at 3rd grade level, while most Kindergarten children are learning what the sound of letters are and some 3 letter words. Super impressed with the system that we got on clearance at Borders. It is basically what the home schooling conferences would sell you for $350!
