Ok this is a somewhat random deal but the one thing I really wanted this year is a chest freezer. Can you believe we do not have one and the freezer in our house is tiny!
So I was looking around last night and the best deal I spotted was the Kenmore 8.8 Cubic Freezer for $199 through Sears. You can order online HERE and use code SEARS5OFF50 and then pick up in store and you will pay $195.
Also they have a 2 year warranty available for $50 and then you can submit a rebate to get the $50 back!
Has anyone seen a better deal on these? I have also been checking Craigslist for a used freezer and I can’t seem to find one at a good price.
Have you checked Sams Club or another warehouse type store?
My husband and I have been looking for one since we bought our house in April. I have found a lot on Craigslist but none in our small town, and it would be an hour plus drive to get one. I did see them at Sam’s Club for about 150ish, but I am really trying to only spend $50-75 on it as it’s just going in the garage, I don’t need it to be pretty, I just need it to work.
We got ours at Costco for under $200…..although I cannot recall the exact price.
It does the job….although I would suggest looking for one w/ multiple baskets. Ours has one basket and there are a ton of little things that would work best in a basket (e.g. frozen juice, small butters, cheese, small packages of meat, etc.)
I got one off the Portland Craigslist awhile back that was in great condition for $50… guess I may have lucked out! Good luck to you!
Seems like a good buy, be sure to use your Kmart rewards card! A freezer pays for itself in so many ways, over and over.
Sam’s – under $200 for sure
I don’t know about where your at but in North Texas we have a store called Resale, run by CCA. I bougt a HUGE upright for $125
We bought one at Costco for $170ish – totally worth it!
I think so too! We looked at Sam’s and Costco and this was by far the best deal. Plus a free warranty after rebate.
Had a chest freezer. I’m not too short 5’4″, but I felt like I was diving into it all the time or pulling out waaaay too much stuff to get to something. I finally gave it away to someone in need and got an upright. I LOVE the upright and would NEVER go back to a chest. The upright is so much more organized. Both were used and only $50 and have really lasted. The only warning I have is not to stack too much meat on top shelves (my teens will do this) they can’t handle the weight.
Sam’s Club in Natomas, CA has them on closeout for under $100.
If you don’t care about how pretty it is, make sure you check the floors at your local Home Depot or Lowe’s. I scored mine for about $140 because it was a “dent and ding” model. Magic Eraser and the marks were gone!
I am not looking for a show piece but at the same time I just don’t have the time to run to a million stores right now. I went to 3 stores today looking for clearances and such and it was a big waste. Some times it is easier to pay a little more and not invest hours of time into finding a deal. We looked at Sam’s, Costco, Lowe’s and Home Depot- but thanks for the suggestions!
I followed your sears link.. did you notice that it also qualifies for a $50 rebate?
Also, I looked up that model on consumerreports.org (we have a membership) and it got very good ratings on temp, energy efficiency, etc.
Yes the rebate is if you buy the warranty- so the warranty for 2 years is $49 and the rebate is $50- so free!
Thanks for these prices, I’ve been dying to have one of these, but we just don’t have the room right now. I’d almost rather buy a new freezer than find one on CL, just to be sure we’re getting as energy efficient as possible. Wouldn’t want all that $$ we’re saving in stocking up go out the door in the energy bill!
I really shopped around and waited for a nice one on CL I bought a 1 year old 14cf kenmore for 100 its perfect. I recently saw an imperial (which is to of the line and run over 2000) on cl for 250!!! it was a great deal but was snatched up before I got it
Charlene, you really want to spend a little extra for an upright and make sure it is ENERGY EFFICIENT. I went shopping for the very same one you are looking at and ended up at Best Buy instead and bought a floor model Frigidaire that was priced between 500.00 – 600.00. I watch our energy consumption closely every month and I figure I spend 20.00 -25.00 extra since I bought the upright. There are various sizes available to suit your needs better than a chest freezer. Didn’t seem like it could hold more than what a regular fridge/freezer could. The extra money you spend will be well worth it……
Just remembered, you also want something that is Frost free.
In our area(Portland) we have a store for slightly damaged items…small dents ect that offer a huge discount because they can’t sell them new…hope you have one like that over there.
I totally would recommend spending a bit more & getting an upright…things tend to get lost & forgotten when stacked on top of each other in a chest freezer.
Hollie – I’m in PDX, what’s the store you mention? Sounds great!
Someone mentioned something about Consumer Reports and that they had a membership. I thought I’d mention that sometimes your library will have a membership to Consumer Reports that you can access for FREE online, and most libraries at least have a copy of the magazine. Ours will let us check out all but the most recent edition! This is great for large purchases.
I have thought about getting a used on too but when I compared the cost of running it, (electricity) we decided to get a newer one with a good energy star rating.
