My current obsession is vacuums. Since Maya is learning to crawl and I am encouraging my toddler to play with her- we spend a lot of time on the floor. Most of the time it is not pleasant despite my vigilant attempts to keep things clean. We have a dog and with two kids plus a husband I feel like the carpets are always dirty. Hence my mission to find the best quality vacuum to make sure the floors are as clean as possible.
We having been saving money to finally buy a top of the line vacuum. I have been researching them for awhile, following prices and asking for lots of feedback from friends. Then I found the Oreck Halo and started reading the reviews and I was really impressed. The Halo not only cleans dirt from the floor but it is unique as it kills germs as well! Fancy!
There are two motors- one that brushes your carpet to bring the packed in dirt to the top and the second is the suction motor that sucks it all up into a HEPA13 filter bag. Then you can push a little button to turn on the UV-C light while you vacuum and the UV-C light will kill any bacteria and germs on your floor! That includes mold spores, fleas and all sorts of other nasty things. According to the web site, the HEPA 13 filter bag will capture 99.95% of particles- which means the Halo is about as good as it gets.
The vacuum works on any floor- from hardwood to carpet so you can use this in every room in the house. I really love this feature for so many reasons but one especially is that I can be sure my kitchen and bathroom floors are also getting a dose of the UV-C light. The Halo also comes with attachments to clean drapes or upholstery and has a 29 foot cord which really speeds up the process. Before I tried this vacuum the only thing I knew about Oreck was that they got great reviews and the vacuums are super lightweight. The Halo is certainly light at 17 lbs and it is extremely smooth to operate.
The vacuum comes in cobalt blue and black and the little Halo logo lights up to tell you the UV light is working.
What I like best though is all the extras that come with this baby-
***You get 3 free comprehensive annual tuneups to make sure your Halo is running at peak performance (there are 400 Oreck stores nationwide)
***You get a 5 year warranty (!!)
***And you get an entire year’s worth of HEPA13 filter bags
As for my experience with the vacuum I can tell you it just looks really cool. It comes in a colbalt blue and black color and if you have men in the house this will catch their attention. We put it together in about 3 minutes and my husband was excited to test it out. (Yes you read that right- he was actually excited to vacuum!) He immediately sucked up a shoelace and had to yank it out of the motor. We were pretty sure we broke the vacuum two minutes after we got it. I found the number and called Oreck at about 6pm at night and expected to hear from someone in a few days. Wrong! We immediately got through to someone that typed in our information and explained what was wrong (slight assembly issue- ah..hem..) and we were back in business! I was really impressed with the level of service and the fact that the person that answered our call was incredibly knowledgeable. To know that I have a five year warranty AND I can actually get customer support on a product means quite a bit to me.
This is an investment piece as the vacuum retails for $599. To make it even better though Oreck is running a promotion through 12/14 where you also get a 2in1 speed sweep and a car vac FREE with your purchase plus free shipping.
You can purchase the Halo from Oreck directly HERE as well as get more information about the product and watch a demo video to see how it really works.

I’d love to try the Oreck Halo, or really any other vacuum that works well. My cheapish dirt devil died last month and I’m not currently in a place financially that I can afford to buy myself a nice vacuum…
