I typically hoard my free item coupons. Many people might get a free coupon and rush right out to purchase that item. Personally, I like to hold them and wait for the right opportunity to double or even triple dip to really maximize the coupon.
An example of a double dip would be a transaction I did last week. I had Free Tyson Entree coupons which I held onto until there was a Buy One Get One Free sale. Then I used the coupon and got 2 of the products free.
An example of a triple dip would be the free Herbal Essences shampoo or conditioner coupon I just got. Now I can purchase a shampoo and purchase a styler and use the free coupon + the buy a shampoo, get a styler free from 10/11 P&G. Then I have two products for free. OR I can wait and see if the deal gets any better- and it does! I can do that same transaction at Walgreens this week and get a $2 Register Reward when you buy 2 Herbal Essences items.
So by holding onto that coupon I not only get a free shampoo, but a styler and I get paid $2 to take those home.
Now I also like to use these coupons for other occasions- like when I need to hit a minimum to use a store coupon. And example would be a $5/15 coupon at CVS. Another example would be this week at Safeway. They are running a promotion- spend $50 and get $10 in Kohl’s cash.
I will likely use many of my free item coupons in order to hit that $50 mark. Now I know I have at least $20 in free item coupons, so I can potentially spend $30 at Safeway and still get the $10 Kohls Cash.
So the next time you stumble upon a freebie you might take your time and see if you can make a great deal even better!
Awesome tips!! I hoard mine to, lol! My coupons are SOOO unorganized though that I have misplaced a couple of freebie coupons and it’s killing me, seriously losing sleep over them haha! I made myself sit down tonight and cut them all out and somewhat organize them and sort out the expired which I might add makes me ill all of the good coupons I have let go to waste! I have been horrible at couponing lately and am trying to get back on track as I so need to be doing it!
Thanks for sharing that tip!! I never thought of doing that. I’ve been running out and using them so I don’t forget that I have them. Now I’ll be watching and waiting.
I would like to know where you get your free coupons – are they things that you sign up for or just in the Sunday paper?
Next week Herbal Essence is BOGO at Rite Aid, use the BOGO styler coupon and get them both free!! I actually just ordered a few more coupons so i could get a few 🙂
in reference to using free coupons: here in md NO STORE will let you use a free coupon in a buy one, get one free sale. also, all grocery stores here subtract coupons from their promotions, so, the amount has to be AFTER coupons. and, NO STORE will let you use two coupons on a buy 1, get 1 free sale.
Thank you for the tip! Now I know how to use the Herbal Essance coupon I just got!!
Thanks
Every one is different. The Herbal Essences was a Facebook thing, I get them from all sorts of promotions- there was a free Sea Cuisine coupon awhile ago, I have a free Yo Plus from sending in the rebate form on Activia… I post free item coupons fairly regularly on the blog. There was a free juice just a few days ago. You can also sign up for the world of mouth programs I have mentioned repeatedly- like Vocalpoint.
That is the trick– you have to be careful they don’t expire!
Here’s another one…If anyone got the 2 free Nestle Pure Life waters from that great Safeway promo, Raleys has an ecoupon right, buy 2 Nestle waters and get $2 off, so if it works and your cashier lets you, 2 free and $2 overage (way to make that Safeway deal work even more for you, make back the $ you spent originally)
Charlene, now what happens if you add the $1 off coupon in the Novemeber Walgreens coupon book? Do you still get the RR’s?
Hey Charlene, do you know if the Kohls cash thing is at Vons too???
Kate I don’t think so. It was advertised on the front of our circular so you might double check. I just had a Vons blogger tell me she couldn’t find it at her store in So CA.
A reader pointed out the Walgreens coupon is for the bigger size shampoo and I keep forgetting to correct that error. So you can’t use it.
I often save my FREE coupons for Rite Aid. If I am a little short to get to $25 so that I can use the $5/$25 coupon, I will use one of my FREE coupons to boost the total!
