Need Some Coupon Inspiration?

OK now this lady needs to guest post on my blog!  If you can spare 2 minutes  watch THIS video about a lady that feeds her family of 6 on $4/ week!! Think they are eating granola bars and cereal?  Wrong!  Watch how she scores fresh fish for .01! And I thought $40 was good!  I’d love to hear your thoughts on this segment- do you think this is possible for everyone?  My stores don’t offer double coupons and I can’t recall ever seeing coupons for proteins- except the occasional $5/20 at Safeway.

If you are looking for the Tony’s pizza coupon she mentions it is right HERE.

Thanks Swappin Spoons!

I think her pantry looks awesome!! BUT… she did not get that by spending $4 a week. She invested money at first and eventually was able to cut it back and then was able to reduce her cost and roll over her rewards and catalinas, etc…

Hi! Good point Dee Dee! I was starting to feel like a coupon loser after seeing all the money she saved! I just started doing coupons and although i think that she did awesome i think it is a bit out of reach for the norm…… Thanks Charlene for all your hard work you put in to this blog. I love it.

I totally agree with yall i dont think she could have a stock pile that big for 4 bucks a week to bad they didnt share where all she goes to find coupons for things like meat. Love the blog i share it with everyone i meet.

Good point, Dee Dee! You definitely have to shell out some money initially to get those ECB’s. Also, it can be difficult to have access to 7 copies of one coupon. I’m glad they noted that she spends a few hours everyday, because it really would take that much effort to keep up a $4/week budget. I wish I had the pantry she did, but I live in a small apartment, so that sort of stockpiling isn’t an option for me. Still a good video, it definitely inspired me to spend less money at the grocery store this weekend!

The meat coupon (the one she used for the fish) was a store coupon. So her store had a $1 off fish coupon and didn’t specify a minimum amount so she spent $1 by getting tiny portions and got a ton for free using the coupons. There was a deal like this on steaks awhile back at Target. People were getting steaks for next to nothing at Target using a store coupon and buying tiny sizes. That NEVER happens for me which is why we could never get that low on the budget.

Great point on having a stocked up pantry too! That is totally true and one reason why our budget is pretty small- my shelves don’t look like that but we do have a lot of basics on hand.

Wow, that is amazing! One day I want to be able to do that too!

I am impressed for sure! She had a huge cart she only paid 1¢ for… I don’t think it’s impossible she stocked her pantry for free or nearly free. And she actually says in the video that she DID stock her pantry for free. Does that $4/week include how much she’s spending on buying papers and coupons? To have that many coupons she must get multiple papers. Papers are $2 here and that gets expensive.

And yes, she did have some coupons for fresh items but a lot of the stuff in her pantry we don’t eat at our house. No frozen pizza… yuck. We all do what works for our families. $4/week works for her and that’s awesome! It wouldn’t work for me. Sometimes I NEED Mint Milanos, even when they’re not on sale with a coupon. 🙂

I thought the video said she was spending a few hours per week, not per day?

It would not be doable where i live but great for her. Our stores(Wegmans and Tops) don’t have store coupons except for rare occasions. I dont think it is possible for the average person though. She probably spends way more time on it than most people have to spare. I would love to be able to do that though. I am loving the Target coupons combined with mfg coupons. I am stocking up on that stuff. This a great blog, and i like it because i can understand what you are saying. Some of those discounts are pretty involved, i lose them after a while 🙂 I am new to this so i am still learning to do what you do. I hope i am that good someday!

Definitely makes me wish I lived in a place that offered double coupons! 🙂

That’s a bit more of a stockpile then my family needs, but I do wish I could be as organized as she is :)! Like Cali said, I do like the freedom of buying things that I just want-but don’t necessarily have a deal for. I don’t always want a cupboard full of Joint Juices and Knorr sides. But if I had a family of 6 I’m sure that I’d need to be much more restrictive! What a woman! Nice to see her sweat a little at the checkout, glad I’m not the only one that does that! Ever feel like they are going to just demand that you leave, even when you know all your coupons are totally legit?!

love that i’m not the only one sweating at the register either…i always feel like i’m being naughty or doing something wrong when i work a really great deal!

I know! When I got that car seat last week for $12 I kept thinking someone would chase me out to the parking lot. And I didnt even use coupons!

Just wanted to point out that somehow she manages to pay for taxes with her coupons… I emailed ABC about it and asked them to investigate the tax part. She lives in Mass. so maybe the tax laws are different, BUT I am pretty sure it is unlawful to use coupons to pay for taxes (it says so on the coupons!!). If you freeze-frame the video to 1:47 (the CVS trip) you see the tax is $3+ and freeze-frame it again at 1:41 and it now says .05 cents!

Usually most of my trips are pretty close to just paying for tax and if you have a big order to begin with (like her $250+ grocery trip) there is more than .01 cent tax on all that!!

I appreciate couponers and all the saving we get, but when you go beyond the law I think they need to be called on it. What do you guys think?

Where I live there is no tax on grocery. So only if I buy soda or something do I pay any tax at the grocery store..
