Walgreens and Rite Aid FAQs

09/19/2009 By Charlene 9 Comments

This post may contain affiliate links, please see my disclosure policy.

As promised last weekend, I am finishing up the new Walgreens and Rite Aid FAQ posts and plan to have them up tomorrow. I will have a lot of information on Register Rewards, rebates and basic info on how both systems work. I’d like to know if anyone has specific questions about either store that I should include in my post. If there is anything that is confusing to you please leave a comment below. If everything is confusing just sit tight and hopefully it will become clear tomorrow.

Walgreens will often have promotions that say buy $10 worth of these products and get a $5 RR. I went there a few weeks ago and purchased one of each of the listed products equalling $11 and a RR didn't print. AFTER purchasing it I spoke to the manager about not getting the RR. He said it's because I had to buy $10 of ONE of the products. The ads are not clear. They list several products and don't specidfy you must purchase $10 of ONE of them. Do you know if this is true? I returned my purchase and because I used one of my own RR's to pay for it he gave me back my money MINUS the RR. I lost out on $5 for NO products. RIDICULOUS! Can you clarify??

That doesn't sound correct to me. Sometimes the catalina machines aren't working and that is why the RR doesn't print. You can always grab whatever they say you were supposed to buy and they can ring it up and void it and see if the RR prints. I am shocked that you didn't get your RR back- that is absolutely not correct either. You should have gotten the RR back, gotten a gift card or cash. I would call Walgreens about this directly- because you should not have lost your $5 RR. 800-925-4733. I would not email because those emails get pushed back and your delightful manager will be the one calling you back. In the meantime, you might want to try to find another Walgreens in your area that is going to be less of a headache. I drive past my Rite Aid and go 2 miles down to another store to have a pleasant shopping experience is worth it to me.

My RiteAid will not accept a free item coupon with a BOGO free promotion (for example–the beef jerky that was on sale this week). However, most of the blogs list this as a valid coupon to use so you can get both items for free there. Do you know if this is the standard at all the RiteAids or was my cashier just not wanting to take yet another coupon from me?

I'm just wondering in general about using a RR at wags for something that gives you a RR . . . I've heard you can't and I've heard you can, but rarely go there because of the confusion. Thanks!

I'd like to know if you purchase something that is triggering a RR at WAGS if you can do multiple transactions right then to get multiple RR or if that is looked down upon/not allowed?

A Rite-Aid question: I am new to Rite-Aid and have racked up some nice SCR's but have not actually recieved my first check. I am wondering how long it takes to actually get the check after I submit for it. I was hoping to 'roll' my rebates… use only the rebate money to purchase more Rite-Aid products that will generate another rebate check, and so on. However, from what I have read on the site, it seems like they do not actually send out the check for a given period until 4 to 6 weeks later! That seems like a long to wait to spend that money, especially as good deals are passing by in the mean time. I would love to hear what others have experienced.

I'm a newbie at all this. I messed up the other day at Walgreens because I forgot that you can't do multiple transactions of the same deal and have multiple RRs print out. I called the store and asked the manager if I could get my money back if I returned products that I bought using RRs, and after asking me if I still had my RRs (hello, no, I gave them to you to pay for the stuff!), he said no. So now I'm out more than $20 in RRs! I emailed you about this yesterday, and you had said that I should be able to get my money back, and I read on this comment thread again that I should be able to…if so, is it the manager's discretion, or is he wrong?

If your store says no than you might be out of luck. You can try calling Catalina Marketing and see if they can mail you the catalinas- although I think they will likely tell you one per transaction. Walgreens is just like any store when it comes to coupons. The managers of the store have the discretion to determine how they want to enforce coupon policies. Typically if you return an item you have used a Walgreens coupon on they will give you the price you actually paid back. If you return an item that you used a MQ on they will refund the retail price. So it depends because in my opinion a RR is a manufacturer coupon so you should get the retail price back. If they don't look at it that way then that is that.

You can either chalk it up to learning the ropes or you can call Catalina and see what happens and then call Walgreens corporate and see what happens. If you have another store in your area you can also call them and explain you didn't realize you could only buy 1 and can you come back in to pay seperately for each item. Do not email because those are just pushed right back to the store level. Otherwise I would either triple check yourself the next time you shop to ensure no mistakes or look for a more coupon-friendly Walgreens.

My local store decided that they would only allow one like coupon per person. I haven't been back in over a year because it isn't worth it to me to argue.

Okay, thanks. I think I will just take a printout of how to shop Walgreens next time and make sure I am doing it right. Trial and error, I guess! ๐Ÿ™‚
