Quick Note: Target Coupon Policy

I always hate to hear about bad coupon experiences from readers, because trust me I have had more than my share too and it can be awful. A reader recently left a comment stating that her store was not allowing Target coupons to be stacked with manufacturer coupons. I emailed Target in regards to this and received the following note:
.
“- We accept two kinds of coupons: Target-issued and manufacturer-issued.
– We’ll accept one Target coupon and one manufacturer coupon for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits it.
– We can’t give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item; in this case, we’re able to adjust the value of the coupon to equal the price of the item.
– We can’t accept coupons from other retailers, or coupons for products not carried in our stores.
– All valid coupons should be presented to the cashier while you’re checking out.”
.
They also recommended calling Guest Relations directly if you run into the issue again at:
800.440.0680.
.
EDITED: I called to follow up on some of your comments since my email friend “Gary” wasn’t that helpful with the coupon policy. I was told:
.
**Stores can use their own discretion to accept Internet coupons or not. If they have had problems in the past, they can refuse to accept them.
.
**Stores can decide to limit Target printables or not. I was told that “some stores have had customers take advantage of a coupon to buy 50 items or more at once and completely wipe out inventory”
My store does not have a problem accepting multiple Target coupons but I don’t often use more than a few at a time. So I guess the takeaway is that you need to learn what your stores policies are in regards to coupons. I’m sorry its not more clear cut.

This is GREAT info! I've heard all kinds of stuff from Target cashiers. I even had a cashier tell me that I could only use one target coupon per transaction. Thanks!

Never had a problem with that but my particular store has refused taking any printed (online) manufacturer's coupons all together. They'll take the cut outs from the inserts but not printed ones!

I have this email, and it still does not help at my local target. I have started going to the next town becuase the one in my town, is very anti coupon, and will not treat me with decency, I get treated like a theif because I use coupons. The other target about 7 miles away, is larger, and alot nicer. I don't go as often as I would have gone if it was closer. But we do what we have to do. ๐Ÿ™‚

My SuperTarget actually just put up REAL (not in-store-quickly-printed) signs at the entrance to the cashier line, which states something along the lines of "YES we accept coupons! We gladly accept one manufacturer's coupon & one Target coupon per item"

For the first time, I had a HORRIBLE coupon experience at target last week–I wasn't even trying to do anything out of the ordinary, just plain jane *Target* coupons. Was even treated rudely by a manager. Sent off a civil but upset e-mail, got back the same cookie cutter response. I used to love Target, but am pretty soured on shopping there now.
