The Living Well promo I have mentioned a few times officially started yesterday. This is going to be a great promo as there are 1000’s of items featured. When you spend $30 (before coupons) on featured items you will receive a $10 catalina for your next purchase. This catalina can be used on the next transaction. The goal is to spend the least amount possible- with coupons you can easily shave 50% off your bill. So that means if you spend $15.00 cash the first transaction (by using $15 in coupons on a $30 purchase) and then keep rolling the deal using your $10 catalina each time you can get a serious stockpile going for very little out of pocket.
To give you an idea of what I mean, here is my first transaction (in the land of no doubles):
Spent $14.73 out of pocket- got $14.00 for my next transaction= net of .73 spent.
Kashi Pizza (on clearance so it didn’t count toward the promo) $4- used $3/1 coupon
Orange Marmalade (on clearance) $1.90
(4) Bertolli Pasta Pouches $2 each
(2) Hormel Chilli $1.33 each- used .55/2 coupon
Smuckers Syrup $3.29- used .55/1 coupon
(4) Ronzoni Bistro Pasta these were BOGO and I used (2) BOGO coupons= FREE
No Yolk Noodles $1.25- used .75/1 coupon
Organic Black Beans $1.59- used $1/1 store coupon
Eating Right Kids Pasta $1.37- used $1/1 store coupon
Jello Sugar Free Rice Pudding $3.50- used FREE item coupon
(2) Tropicana 50 juice $2.50 each- used (2) $1/1 Ips
Eating Right Kids Ice Cream cups $2.50- used $1/1 store coupon
(3) Dial Soap- $1 each- used (3) .35/1 coupon
Hormel Roast Beef -marked down to $1.99- used a .55/1 blinkie from the display
Lean Ground Beef $3.23- used $2/1 store coupon
Also received a bag credit of .09, got my 10% off discount (4.72) and used 2 Bertolli catalinas from prior transaction. The items were not yet marked in my store so this wasn’t a great trip for me- but we got things we needed like syrup and lunch meat.
If this is confusing feel free to ask any questions. This is a hot promo and don’t forget to dig out those Bertolli coupons! The catalina runs until 4/22 and not only will you get these free after catalina for every 2 you buy, but they also count toward the promo.

If I spend $60, do I receive 2 $10 catalinas? I received a Safeway coupon in the mail for $5 off a purchase of $50.
Charlene says
I don’t think you will get two catalinas. I am going to double check on this and will let you know. It is easy to get to $50 if you have any free item coupons. You can also add the tote bag which is free after coupon- it is probably $1 or so.

Is there a list of items that are included in the Healthy shopping items?? To get the $10 catalina? Where did you get the No Yolk coupon? If you recall….
Charlene says
Hi Jennifer,
The no yolk is listed under my Safeway deals. I will be working on the coupon matchups so check back often! There is a picture of a booklet in the ad hat is supposedly available in the stores with all the items, but my store did not have it. I have an excel spreadsheet that is 48 pages with all the items but it doesn’t have pricing. Here is the link to the spreadsheet- http://tinyurl.com/c7bf8w. You can choose an alpha list or to sort it by UPC.

Amelia, I asked around and no one seemed to know the answer to your question. In your case, I would either call Customer Service or check in at the store and ask. You can also just make the purchase and go to the desk after if you don’t get the second catalina. Many stores will either give you a gift card or cash.
I left a message for the catalina company too but I have not heard back yet.
If you want to email me directly I have one more suggestion for you. Myfrugaladventures at yahoo dot com.

Great run, Charlene! And to Amelia–the wording in the ad says “for every $30 you spend…” so I would definitely go to CS and ask for the $10 if the second one doesn’t print out.
Amelia says
Thanks for all of the help everyone! I’ll let you know what happens.
Christina Huling says
where are you getting the free item coupons and “store” coupons you are mentioning? Are these in the ad because I didn’t see them in mine, but sometimes they have 2 separate ads? thanks!
Charlene says
Hi Christina, One of the coupons I use all the time is posted here: http://myfrugaladventures.blogspot.com/2009/03/safeway-store-coupon.html
In the above scenerio I used it for the Organic beans. I also have a stack of Eating Right Kids coupons that a fellow blogger got at a tasting at her store. I used that coupon on the pasta. The one for the ground beef was from a booklet that I got multiples of at my store’s Grand Reopening. I always suggest popping into any store that is opening or reopening as these booklets will likely be available and they have amazing coupons like $10/50 and $2 off ANY meat purchase, seafood purchase, $1 off produce etc…
The Sensible Momma says
I think you only get one catalina, even if you have $60 of participating items. My catalina says “Limit one coupon per transaction per day.” I’m planning on just splitting my transactions up.
Amelia says
So….it only gave me one catalina. I went to the CS guy before my shopping trip to ask him. He was so helpful. Neither him nor the manager knew the answer, so he said just to come back at the end and he would give me a giftcard. I was a bit disappointed w/ the promo though because the prices are so high! I never shop at Safeway because it is so expensive. I usually do a combo of Costco, Target, FoodMaxx and a farm stand. ๐ But I am happy that I have $22 for my next purchase.
Jen Caputo says
Can you explain the 10% off? I’ve seen this mentioned a few times and they say to just call them and ask for it… how does that work?
Charlene says
Hi Jen,
Basically call the# on your club card on a day you feel lucky. You can call and say a friend got 10% off and you’d like it to or whatever. I have had luck 2x- once when my stepmom got the bonus mailed to her and I called and asked for it too. The second time was because I had a store remodel and they mailed me a 1 day 10% off. I called and said the day didn’t work for me and I was given 10% off for 5 weeks. It depends on your CSR and where you live. Apparently some people have received more than 10%!
Good luck!
