How I got this (new) Potty free.

04/19/2009

Share

One of the goals of this blog is to take the savings outside of the grocery and drug stores. I keep challenging myself to find new and creative ways to save money on ALL our purchases and here is one way way I did it.

I emailed Graco a few weeks ago to compliment them on a stroller I borrowed from a friend and liked. They sent me a letter offering a $10 rebate on any Graco purchase. Since we were starting to look at potties, I found this Graco 3 in 1 potty recommended by Babycheapskate. The potty is currently $19.99 at Amazon- (here are the top 3 recommendations with reader comments if you are in the market.)

To get over the $25 mark to qualify for free shipping, I found a cookie sheet on clearance for $8 here. (I have been wanting a new one for ages)

I have been raving about Swagbucks for a few weeks now and cashed in my bucks for (4) $5 e gift cards. We paid $8 and will get a $10 rebate back from Graco.

Have you scored any great deals outside the grocery store lately? I’d love to hear about them!

Apparently it is snowing where Laura is, but here in Cali it is supposed to reach 95
tommorrow!!! Since I am also 37 (or is it 87) weeks preggo cooking in a hot kitchen is not on the agenda this week. DH will be doing a lot of grilling in the coming weeks and the crockpot is getting dusted off for sure!
Here’s the plan-
Monday: Orzo Pasta with tomato, cucumber, feta cheese, fresh dill and olives. DH will probably have chicken with his.
(Did you see how I scored a .99 dill plant here and how I got free produce this week here?)
Tuesday: Grilled hot dogs and grilled white corn (DH has Ball Park franks that were free at Sfwy after coupons from months ago. I bought Smart Dogs at Whole Foods this week for $1.99 after coupon. The corn is on sale 3/.99 and the buns I buy in bulk at Costco for cheap and freeze.)
Wednesday: Crock pot chicken with mushroom sauce and spaghetti (this is my favorite quick recipe as I just dump frozen chicken breast in the crock and top it with the Bertolli Mushroom Pasta Sauce that has been free at Sfwy. The chicken breast is from a few weeks ago when it was $1.69/lb after coupon at Sfwy. The pasta was from the mix and match promo a few weeks ago and was free with doubles or .25/box without.
Thursday: Shepard’s Pie– this looked so very yummy but the recipe hasn’t made it to FoodNetwork site yet. The Neelys put mashed potatoes in a cupcake tin and topped with sauteed ground beef/veggies and sprinkled with cheddar cheese and baked it. This is a great way to use the ground beef I have been getting for less than .50/lb after coupon at Sfwy and the free potatoes I got by using a catalina coupon.)
Friday: Chef’s Salad- I make this a lot in the summer to use up whatever I have in the fridge. I have more free salad dressing than I care to admit from various promotions and I will serve it with foccacia bread I bought at Walmart for .90 a few weeks ago. I buy the bread on the day old rack, ask the bakery to slice it and put it in the freezer until I need it.)
Saturday: Grilled burgers and green beans (bought the beans this week .60 after catalina promo at Sfwy- the ground beef I mentioned above and I will have a Boca burger that I stocked up on during the Chill at Home promo at Sfwy for less than $2/box. The buns are purchased in bulk at Costco and frozen.)
Sunday: I will have a Kashi frozen pizza that was .57 after coupon and DH will make his Beef Stroganoff (yuck!) This is another use for the ground beef, the No Yolk noodles that I have gotten for .50 after coupon and the Campbell’s mushroom soup that was .16 at Target.)
Dessert: this week we will have grilled pineapple (purchased for $1.99 after coupon) and Breyer’s ice cream ($2 after coupon and promo and also a rebate item for Unilever rebate.) I might make another batch of these incredible brownie cheesecakes. I will use the Hershey’s Bliss I have been getting for .99 after coupons at Target instead of chocolate chips.
If I am motivated, I will also try these Italian breadsticks that look spectacular from Cooking During Stolen Moments. (Note- I buy 32 oz of Precious Mozzarella cheese from Costco for $3.59 so we will have the over the top version!)
I don’t think anything here is over $5.00 a meal.
Is it helpful to have pricing attached with meals or is it annoying? I am hoping to show how you can combine weekly deals with stockpile items to create a decent menu for your family. Most of these items are from Safeway which is a very expensive store. Our deals might not match but I live in one of the most expensive areas in the country- so if I can do it I know you can too!

Advance Walgreens Deal

04/19/2009

Share

Brea found a great coupon that you will want to print ASAP for next week. Nivea Body Wash will be free next week at Walgreens after Register Reward- click here to get your $1/1 coupon. I would print this now as this will likely reach its limit soon. PRINT LIMIT HAS BEEN REACHED.
BUT
If you happen upon a Nivea display in your stores I also found little booklets with $1/1 Body Wash coupons as well as a $1/1 in today’s inserts.

Safeway LW Promo take 2.

04/19/2009

Share

This last trip I paid $13.45 and will get $1.49 next time I go to the store due to being overcharged. So a net of $12.00 and I got a $10 catalina toward my next purchase.

This is a great example of using coupons to reduce the cost of produce which can be extremely difficult to do- I paid $1.99 for 2 huge potatoes, pineapple, 1lb carrots, 4 lbs grapes, and 1 cucumber. See below for the breakdown.

For the Living Well Promo I got the following:

1 can Green Beans

4 Mac and Cheese

(3) Electrasol

(1) Capri Sun Sunrise

(1) No Yolks

(1) Breyer’s Ice Cream

(1) Precious String Cheese

(1) Eating Right wheat bread

(1) Dial Hand Soap

Other items-

Lean Ground Beef $3.00- used $2/1 store coupon

2 lg potatoes

Athenos Feta Cheese- used $1/1 from display in deli

Eating Right Carrots $1- used $1/1 coupon I told you about here= FREE

Cucumber .69

2 Kashi pizzas- on clearance for $4- used $3/1 MQ

4lbs grapes

1 tote bag $1.49- should have been free but cashier didn’t scan coupon

Pineapple $2.99- used $1/1 store coupon

$1 donation to people w/ disabilities

I called Safeway a few weeks ago and told them I received a 10% coupon in the mail. I explained it was for dates that I would not be available to shop and the CSR gave me 10% off all purchases on my club card for 5 weeks. This is luck of the draw to get the discount but you can call too!

The 10% is after store coupons and before MQ so in this case I received $4.20 off. That discount basically paid for 4lbs of grapes and a cucumber. I also used coupons to get a pineapple for $1.99 and the carrots for free. I paid $2.00 for the potatoes but used a $2.00 catalina I received for buying Bertolli last week. This is just an example of how you can use coupons to save a little extra on produce.

Did you catch this earlier post getting a fresh dill plant for .99?

Safeway- .99 Herb Plant

04/19/2009

Share

I found these Organic Herbs on sale today for $1.99 at Safeway. By using this coupon- I got the plant for $.99. Many people are finding O Organic coupons by the customer service counter that would work as well!

I seem to be shopping a lot at Safeway lately, so make sure to follow me on twitter or sign up for my feed to get all the latest deals!

Kmart Super Doubles Trip! Saved 81%

04/19/2009

Share

I spent $13.45 (including $2.44 tax) and had one coupon for BOGO Purex that wouldn’t scan. The total should have been $11 or so– I have a feeling you need a filler at Kmart (or an equal number of items to coupons). I used the $5/50 coupon which would have made 22 items and 23 coupons, so I suspect that was the problem. Any Kmart experts that know for sure? One BOGO scanned fine and the second BOGO was the last coupon I gave the cashier.
My store was doubling up to $2.00.
Here is the breakdown of what I got. To find the coupon matchups click here.
(3) Vaseline Lotion, (1) Phisoderm Face Wash, (1) 2pk Energizer Battery, (1) Secret Flawless Deodorant, (1) Aveeno Shave Gel, (1) 60 ct Band Aid, (1) Johnson and Johnson Qtips, (4) Purex,
(3) Huggies wipes, (1) Carvers Dog treats, (1) Hershey’s Bliss, (3) Post Trail Mix cereal,
(2) Daisy Sr Cream.
I will likely do another round at Kmart to stock up on Huggies wipes. Follow me on Twitter or sign up for my feed if you want to see more shopping trips!
