My good friend Annette was in town this week and I decided to enjoy a day of shopping outside of the grocery store! I am usually not tempted to hit the malls but since there were so many great deals I decided to hit a few stores up. We had a GREAT day and I spent a whopping $10.64! That included the following:
Eyebow Wax: I have been avoiding spending the $15 plus tip for this service for ages now. I am on the email list for a fancy salon and recently received a message that they were debuting a new brow bar and the first 25 customers in on Friday would receive a free brow wax. Since it is a swanky part of town and a fancy place, I figured few people would show up to take advantage and I was correct! They opened at 10am and after waiting about 7 minutes I got right in. Cost was $5 for tip. (I wrote about finding deals beyond the grocery stores here if you want more ideas!)
NY&Co. The great coupon came out yesterday for $15 off a $15 purchase which I told you about here and I knew I would be able to get a great deal. Even if I don’t need anything I still take advantage of these opportunities to look for gifts for friends and family. Although we are on a budget, I have found all sorts of ways to be generous in gift giving.
For the first trip, I purchased a wallet on clearance for $2.99 and two shirts priced at 2/$20. The total was $8.64 after coupon and as one shirt was for Annette- I only paid $5.64. I also got a free charm bracelet, which was part of the promotion. My friend found two pairs of earrings priced at $10.95 and $6.95- the store offers a 50% off one item wyb 2 and after coupon the total was 0!! She wound up with one pair and I selected the second.
We also stopped in at Victoria’s Secret and picked up the free lotion I told you about here (which smells delicious).
The service was so friendly at NY&Co and I was amazed at the generous promotion they offered. If I need to purchase clothing in the future, I will definitely be back. So my breakdown for the day was $10.64- including a professional brow arch, earrings, a bracelet, small lotion, shirt and wallet.
Note: I preplanned for a few indulgences while our friends were in town. I have completed 3 Mystery Shops- which I told you about here– and have already been paid $27. So I was able to spend a little extra without detracting from our savings goals.
I’d love to hear about your favorite indulgences and how you fit them into the budget!

Amazing trip! I am always impressed when people do this at the grocery store but doing it at the mall – you must have a black belt in getting good deals!

Hi Christy, I hate to say it but I just love to shop! Our financial goals are more important than new stuff so creativity is called for so I don’t feel sorry for myself.
I love finding ways to use coupons outside the grocery/drug store- those are the deals I usually get the most excited about.
Thanks for your comment!
