Article: My Financial Infrastructure.

After reading this great article on Getting Rich Slowly, I was inspired to write about using multiple savings accounts. This is a wonderful tip that my husband and I started years ago. We set up a savings account, checking account and a second savings account that had money automatically deducted each month for our vacation fund. These days we still use multiple accounts for the different priorities in our life. We have the checking account and savings account for our emergency fund, we also have 3 other ING Accounts for other priorities in our life.

  • One account is a college fund for our little girl
  • One is set aside for property taxes- we transfer the monthly amount into this account and then transfer the money into savings twice a year when the bill is due
  • The third account is for home repairs. We currently have a few repairs that we hope to accomplish this year and we set aside any money we receive from selling items on Craigslist to be put back into this account.

We have been using ING for years and enjoy the convenience and extra interest we get from using a virtual bank. The interest rate fluctuates all the time and is currently at 1.5% down a little from February when it was over 2% and last year when it was 4.5%!

If you aren’t familiar with ING I have written about it in more detail here and here. I would strongly encourage everyone to consider opening a few accounts that suit your needs. If you are saving for a new to you car- you might have a car fund, if you hope to pay cash for a big project or if you are living debt free and want to save for a luxury item than why not put a name on that money and designate a special account? You can take the next step and have everything automated through your checking account to really simplify your life.

If you have $250 to start an account ING offers an additional $25 sign up bonus. You can transfer the funds out of your account at any time or you can arrange to have a debit card (we do not) for your accounts. Email me at myfrugaladventures at yahoo dot com for the bonus code.

Check out the coupon toolbar to the right and print out several Hasbro and Leapfrog coupons. You might want to have these on hand when you stop in to Walmart as some people have found Leapfrog items on clearance from $79 to $9.99. Christmas is just 9 months away :) Don’t forget you can print each coupon twice.

Ice Cream and a pretzel.

Tommorrow only take a non-perishable food item to your local Ben and Jerry’s and get an ice cream cone for $1. This is a great excuse to go through your stockpile anyway. Click here to find a store near here.

I got a tip that Auntie Ann’s is offering a free pretzel coupon when you sign up for the newsletter. I signed up here and will update when I get mine.

Check out the Cherry Picker here to get your free soda and chocolate bar next week at Walgreens. Then go back here and see if you can get free cheese sauce to wash down all that sugar. Then go back here to find out about the free Glade candle next week at Walgreens.

You might be 2 lbs chubbier but at least the house smells good.

Reports that a new catalina has started for Bertolli pasta sauce pouches. Receive $2 oyno catalina wyb 2 pouches. These are part of the mix and match that goes through tommorrow and are priced at $1.50 (when you buy 10 participating). Many people are finding $1/1 blinkie machines in front of the sauces.

Math looks like this:

$1.50 x 2= $3.00
$1/1 MQ x2= $2.00
Pay $1.00 and get a catalina for $2 off your next order.
I am going to make a run tommorrow and I will report back!
I have heard this rolls AND that you get a $2 catalina for every 2 pouches you buy.
So buy 10 pouches $2x 10= $20- $5 off for mix and match promo = $15,
use (10) blinkies $1/1= $5.00 and get (5) $2.00 catalinas. MM of $5.00.

I stopped at Target and got the following for $2.89 total:

(4) Reach Toothbrushes – .97 each used $1/1 MQ

(1) True North Nuts- $2.00 each used $1/1 MQ **The sale on these is over. This rang up at $3.29 and I went to customer service and they credited me the difference in cash. The tags from last week were still on the shelf.

(1) Johnson’s baby qtips $1.29- used $1/1 MQ any Johnson’s Baby item

(1) Frozen Pretzels- $1.89- used $.75/1 MQ

(2) Mott’s Applesauce- $1.69- used (2) $1/1 Target Q, (2) .55/1 IP **They also had plain flavors for 1.44/each which would have netted .11 overage. Since I was already getting overage on the toothbrushes I didn’t want to push my luck.

Then for Walgreens.

(3) Orbit Gum- clearanced to .35 each- used .99/3 IVC

(5) Starburst- clearanced to .22 each (this will be put in cellophane and wrapped with ribbon for Easter gifts)

(2) Mike & Ike’s candy- clearanced to .34 each (since we are going to the movies tonight)

(2) Glade Lasting Impressions Air Freshener- $9.99 used BOGO IP, $4/1 MQ from Glade, $4/1 IVC- the register deducts $4 for each one I purchased so I was credited $8.00 which made this a $2 money maker

(2) 2pks of Duracell batteries .99 each

(2) Deerfield Farms Raisins $1 each
(2) Deerfield Farms frozen pizzas clearanced to .25 each.
I paid on a gift card- the total was $6.01 for everything.

I prepare 3 meals every night: a regular version, vegetarian version and a toddler version. Plus we love dessert so check out this week’s plan- all on a $30/wk budget!

This week I am cooking a lot from my favorite cookbook, Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld. You can check it out at the library or buy it used from my Amazon toolbar on the right. It is full of simple recipes that sneak extra veggies into just about everything and they are all so yummy!

Monday:
Regular: Homemade BBQ Chicken Pizza (recipe here From Frugal is Fabulous)
Vegetarian: Homemade Vegetable and Cheese Pizza
Toddler: Vegetable and Chicken with very light sauce

Tuesday:
Regular/Vegetarian: Three Cheese Ravioli, Green Salad
Toddler: Light sauce and no salad dressing

Wednesday:
Regular: Tacos from Deceptively Delicious with hidden tomato
Vegetarian: Same using chopped up Boca burgers
Toddler: Quesadilla from Deceptively Delicious cookbook (uses pureed beans)

Thursday:
Regular: Swiss Chicken Casserole (repeat from last week since I have leftover soup and stuffing) was a big hit with my husband.
Vegetarian: Green salad with Texas Toast
Toddler: Chicken and steamed broccoli

Friday:
Regular: Steak with sauteed mushrooms and steamed veggies
Toddler: Same
Vegetarian: Boca Burger with mushrooms, mozzarella cheese and steamed veggies

Saturday:
Regular: Pulled Cuban Chicken Wraps from Robin Miller here
Vegetarian: Cheese and vegetable wrap
Toddler: Broccoli Chicken Nuggets from Deceptively Delicious

Sunday: Leftovers

Desserts:
Hot Fudge Sundaes with Nigella’s yummy chocolate/pb sauce
Apricot Oat bars- recipe here (you can find boxes of dried apricots at Walgreens for $1.00)
